New changes that are going to happen
Where's the fighting? I brought popcorn.
Apparently I spoke too soon.
Taking away the Arcade and Dens takes away the whole social aspect of a community and makes the whole site quite dull to outsiders.
We aren't taking away the Den or the Arcade, just the pointless topics inside of them. All of the most popular games have been saved in the Den. And we aren't going to delete Den topics unless they are really, really dumb. I don't want to post any examples of these because I don't want to publicly call out the members who made them.
But one month is a bit much. If not remove it, then at least shorten it to say.. two to three weeks.
You make a good point. I'll bring this up in the next staff meeting.
In fact it's already spamming the den. The ''rate the siggy above you'' topic is already on top the whole time.
I have noticed that too. I'll bring it up as well
I'm not disagreeing on this, but it could have happened way earlier. Instead the forum has always been locking topics. seriously? What is the purpose of locking them if we don't need them. Just delete them in the first place and send the creater as standard PM
I think that this may be against the rules. I remember I sent a request one time to a mod that said "Please delete this topic. If not, please lock" and they ended up locking it. So I'm guessing that this isn't the norm on the site. TBH, it would look so much better to remove them although. *makes another mental note to bring it up with the staff*
Simply eliminating things in the den will not bring most people back to TLK because that is not the reason they visit here so often. they visit here because the members are nice and to discus things that are all in the den and the members HQ.
You're confusing apples and oranges. We are eliminating things in the den to tidy things up, organize the overall section, and remove pointless OT stuff. The primary goal of this isn't to jumpstart TLK discussions.
ridiculous, I have no other words for it. So I first have to send a pm to a mod, then wait until he/she replies and then I can create my topic. Just pointless and ridiculous

Well now, that is stupid...
:/
We were trying to avoid the backlash that would have followed if someone created a topic and then it was deleted the next day. That's basically the only alternative to the situation. Plus, there are other forums with this same rule. But yes, I will bring this back up as well.
Exactly. Most new members join to discuss TLK. In fact, the newer members are mostly the only ones posting in those sections.
We aren't trying to encourage TLK posting as much as we are trying to discourage Den posting by people that will not be here longer than 3 weeks. I can think of one member (whom I will not be publicly naming) that created several Den topics, most of which are locked, within the first couple of weeks here and she is no longer active.
Just don't rig it so new people bore me with a flood of "Simba is pretty" kibble posts in the TLK section, okay?
Trust me, I don't want that either. But like Blake said, if this does happen we can reverse it. No worries. Hakuna Matata.
Right now MLK does not feel like a lion king forum more just a social area, so we came up with idea that in the long run we feel will help spark up the community as this forum intended: for The Lion King
Now read those new rules again, I'm pretty sure there is a connection!

^The goal of bringing back TLK discussions is a long term one. I'd love to see it happen more than anyone, but in the mean time, we are cleaning up the Den. There is a connection, but it's not a domino effect. Removing a person's Q&A thread that never got a response isn't going to make people talk TLK.

That's not the point. The point is that not only Q&A threads will be deleted. Look at this, the smarty pants is gone and yes I know only a few topics got deleted, nevertheless what is the point of deleting it? absolutely nothing. Will it give more structure? no.

The the arcade, members had fun there. This so called ''cleaning up and organizing'' placed the major arcade topics in the middle of the den creating a weird and confusing situation. I'd say it's worse than it was before. Simple spam topics are now pushing down the actual den threads. Another thing, Who in the lords name cares if there are stupid topics in the arcade? That was what it was meant for, and if it was even too stupid for the arcade it would get deleted after 75 days. I don't see why anyone should be bothered by this.

To any mod/admin, I'd like to have a transcript of those deleted discussions if they are still somewhere locked away. They would come in very handy on a paper I'm writing.

Also IMO TLK has died over the past year, at least that is what I see on this forum. As I posted before, it's not the main structure of this forum (anymore) and it probably never will be ever again.

BTW I may look like an annoying and complaining guy now, but seriously maybe you guys should have asked first before bringing up such big changes. I think that it is inevitable that people will leave sooner or later because of this.

I can't wait until these changes are made and turn out good and then we wander what all the fuss as about:P I will lol in your face, ya hear ? a big, fat LOL with capital letters right in your face.

Are the changes unnecessary? Slightly yes. Is it unneccesary to make such a fuss over something that will be fine in the end anyway, slightly also. If its terrible, the staff will undo it I'm sure, and if it's not then no harm done ( as far as I can see that's going to be the case) only thin I highly detest is havin to get permission to start a thread, I mean double you tea eff?! But the rest of it is fine son. So let's just see what happens :)

I think the whole permission thing has been confused. It's probably going to be a system set up for The Den, just like for new members, where every post in the den has to be approved before being put in there. Just like new members need to have their first post approved. You wouldn't have to PM a mod to do it.

As far as the 1 month thing, yeah maybe that is a bit harsh. I'm sure the staff will be discussing it.

And jeez woeler, why are you making such a big deal over a SPAM AREA. Do you not notice that everyone wanted it gone but you? Also, for the Smartypants Forum, we only deleted the stuff that had no purpose being on this forum, really even in the first place. Moka decided to give people a chance with these debates and they backfired. If we hadn't of removed them, they they would of done is just sat there for new members to see, and be totally counter-productive. You say the Evolution thread had some good discussion... but it really didn't. It was just a bunch of fighting. And that Speed of Light thread is still there. lol

That's referring to the Laws of Motion, not this site. lol So, I'm going to have to ask you to stay on topic, seriously... this is getting ridiculous. This has nothing to do with science.

Has nothing to do with disagreeing with people's opinions. There are a lot of stupid threads in The Den that shouldn't just be floating there. All we're doing by not doing this, is just allowing The Den to get messier and messier. We're trying to clean it up. Again, not doing this would go along with being Counter-Productive.
