"...A Very Handsome Throw Rug"

"...A Very Handsome Throw Rug"

Postby Jarrett » January 23rd, 2012, 4:36 am

We all remember the crack Zazu makes about Scar when Mufasa says "What am I going to do with him?" to which he replies "He'd make a very handsome throw rug."

Well, I guess he did.

In this scene in Hercules, we can very clearly see the scar on the rug, and the green eyes that are (somehow?) there. :? I'm assuming this is just another mediocre Disney easter egg/joke as if the hyenas really killed Scar, I'd imagine there'd be very little left of his pelt. Anyway, I'd like to hear some thoughts on this. I didn't find it that funny, and in fact I was a little offended by it, even if it was just some good fun. Either way, what do you think?

Aww, I thought it was actually pretty tongue-in-cheek for an inside joke, they're usually pretty painfully corny. At least it was wry.

I was too spoiled by the Hercules & Xena TV shows to dig the rest of the rest of the movie :P

I've known about that reference for a very long time. I must say, it is either a subtle inside joke, especially from Disney, or Zazu is prophetic. I'll go with both choices, since Zazu foretold of Simba and Nala's future romance, as well.

Seeing as Hercules was the first Disney movie I saw in theaters, (even if I was little xD) it's been one of my favorites and I always catch that. Zazu obviously has the 'sight'. But how are you offended by it? :S I thought it was very clever.

I enjoyed it and thought it was cool that they had Scar show up in another Disney movie.
I am also a big fan of: Phantom of the Opera, High School Musical, Harry Potter, Disney in general, Days of Our Lives, musicals in general, Dr. Seuss in general and the Grinch.

Oooh! High five! Another Herc/Xena fan!

I was never big on how badly Disney messed with the Hercules myths, but I still enjoyed the movie. I just love the beginning with baby Herc and Pegasus.

And I do love the little in-joke with Scar showing up as the rug in that scene. But then again, I dig in-jokes.

Yeah I caught that the first time I saw the movie. Andreas Deja was the lead animator on both Scar and Hercules so I always assumed the joke was his idea. I got a big kick out of it.
