Anyway, the idea has been brewing in KK's mind a bit and after talking about it among staff, I think we're ready for some member input!
What we're hoping to do in general is make the groups more active and significant. We want to do this because the groups on MLK seem to be more of a way to label yourself as a role player or a graphic artist, etc. We would rather they be a way for group members to share ideas and collaborate with one another.
To do this, we hope to do something like...
- Remove the AMV Makers group. It's time for it to go bye-bye. You can hardly make music videos without YouTube removing it anymore, which is unfortunate. It just isn't as active as it once was.
- Create a group for MLK Welcome team members.
- Remove ALL members from Fan Artists, Fanfic Writers, Graphic Designers, Role Players, Wiki Editors. The new way of becoming and remaining members in groups justifies this, we think.
- Host member nominations and elections for group leaders of each group. The group leader should be sort of a "domain expert" or knowledgeable in the field that their group represents. If Billy leads the RP group, he better be a damn good RPer so he can help advise group members. Group leaders will also manage the memberships of the group. They will be responsible for accepting requests to join their group and if a member shouldn't be in a group for some reason, such as inactivity, they can kick that member out of the group. Group leaders will also be working with the moderators to make sure the group is functioning appropriately! We will elect new group leaders every 4 months and the group leader can be reelected if he or she is doing a good job in the members' eyes.
- Members apply to be in the groups that they want to be in. Group leaders accept or reject members through their UCP. (We'll come out with technical how-tos later).
- ???
- Profit
So how does this sound to everyone? I think I've covered as much as I can, KK will add stuff I assume.
