Seen any interesting documentaries lately?

Postby KingKovu44 » September 8th, 2011, 10:23 pm

By documentaries, I mean TV documentaries, like on Discovery Channel and so on. Recently, I saw a very interesting one on dinosaur behavior called "Dinosaur Revolution" on Discovery and another one on the discovery of the North Pole.

I saw a great little documentary about the Unabomber on the National Geographic Channel last week. I also recorded about a dozen 9/11 documentaries during the tenth anniversary this past September. I still a few to go...

I have a lot of catching up to do.

If we're talking about theaterically released documentaries, The Thin Blue Line is one of the best documentaries...eh, scratch that...one of the movies ever made. It's about a Texas man wrongly convicted of murder and has basically set the standard for all the documentaries of the past two decades. Not to mention its got a musical score nearly as good as The Lion King.

In all seriousness, this is one of the best movie soundtracks I have ever heard. It's also on Netflix. :D

Right now, I really want to see a documentary about the 1925 serum run in Alaska (basically, the true story of Balto).

It's not an existing documentary. I'm just expressing a wish that one such documentary did exist. I'm a major mushing enthusiast and want to know more about the event that led to the running of the Iditarod.

I just search Netflix and came up empty. :sad2: Would you settle for a six minute "Behind the Scenes" featurette for the 1995 animated movie?

^ Fair enough. However, I won't give up hope. I remember back in 2006 wishing that there was a documentary on America's 1800's war with the Barbary pirates of Tripoli. Sure enough, later that same year, they did one. It's just a matter of being patient.

Recently watched "The Last Lions" on Nat Geo wild. Absolutely breathtaking, one of the most visually stunning documentaries I have seen in long time. Plus narrated by Jeremy Irons was a treat.
