Yeh I think it is because he is a shaman too. And also because Simba didn't want to believe in his father at first "You said you'd always be there for me! But your'e not. And it's because of me" etc. so he didn't see him until he was ready.
I agree with Amanda ^ Mufasa's spirit appears when Rafiki is around because Rafiki is a shaman and can summon spirits. He is no ordinary monkey xD
Hm, I think Mufasa might need Rafiki's help to make an impact on the living world, but that's just me.... Like, Rafiki is the being that Mufasa can communicate through.

Mostly just talking about the first movie here. But I'd say partly because Rafiki is a Shaman, and partly because I think Simba didn't really believe in himself, and felt like he had betrayed his father. So he didn't believe that Mufasa could actually live in him, like Rafiki showed him. He couldn't see, until Rafiki gave him the confidence to see what had always been there.

Maybe Rafiki was closer to Mufasa than the rest of them and only he could get Mufasa's spirit to appear.
I am also a big fan of: Phantom of the Opera, High School Musical, Harry Potter, Disney in general, Days of Our Lives, musicals in general, Dr. Seuss in general and the Grinch.

Kay, about the reviews Confused Matthew can hate the movie if he wants but I really don't see how can't you like TLK. This guy seems to be a big hater. Gosh I had a funny thought about this guy: I imagine this hater while watching the end of Hakuna Matata with T & P and Simba walking together (I'm refering to the meme about this scene that is "Haters gonna hate")  .
Maybe he hates this film cause he realized that he was a "Forever alone" during CYTLT
