I'm not sure where that came from, unless you're referring to specific countries doing that to people. While I don't think religion or secularism should be forced, I think both should be fully tolerated from whatever source they come from. Promoted or engaged in, sure. Forced, no.
I definitely agree that both have an important place in society.
