Do you notice the constant background noise?

Do you notice the constant background noise?

Postby FlipMode » November 29th, 2011, 11:59 pm

Just watching it again, and realised there is always noise in the background of these films, like animals and creatures making noise in the distance. Anyone else notice that?

Not unless I turn up the volume ridiculously high. :P

Absolutely. I really like that aspect in the movie. Of course, you need good audio to hear the background noise, but it's what sets The Lion King apart.

As an example, I really like when in the scene with Rafiki and Simba by the pool, when Simba first looks at the water and only sees his reflection, I really like the sound of the crickets in the background. I would say that it adds realistically to the feeling of loneliness that Simba must be feeling.

And then of course are all the animals you can here in scenes such as the entire Circle of Life sequence.

Yep. It's one of those little details that really makes me love this movie even more. It makes it feel more realistic, somehow.

^ Well, in those scenes, I know what you mean. I was thinking about the background noise within the background noise.

I mean if you list listen closely (its clearer when the music is not playing or is very soft) you will hear some wildlife noises in the background, as well as chirping noises and stuff, its great. Neat little detail IMO

For all the times I've seen the movie (Even in the Theaters) I never took notice of that.

A little bit. I always hear some bird noises in the background after adult Nala pins Simba after their brief fight in the jungle. Other than that, I hear some animal noises during the "Circle of Life" sequence.

Now that FlipMode has mentioned this, I never thought about this, but it is a very interesting aspect in the movie. Rather minor, but still subtle, as it adds more of the outdoor environment in each scene they are set in. For example, if you wander through a jungle, you will hear sorts of exotic sounds and noises such as birds, and the filmmakers wanted to capture as much of Africa as they can while making this movie, so adding these African animal sounds is not only benefitial for the movie, but it also creates the mood of the scene.

The next time I see the movie, I'll listen very closely.

I think I have noticed it in parts, but not throughout the whole film. I will definitely notice it when I next watch it!
