Stop Censorship Banner

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!
Stupid question but...

Do you think they will shut down MLK?
If the bill is passed sites like MLK will be among those in danger. At the moment, that's unlikely.

The fact that americancensorship.org isn't working for some of us is a bit unsettling as well...
It is actually highly unsettling. The fact that some of us are able to visit it (at campus I can get to it but at home I can't) means that it is very likely that the website is blocked on some ISPs. (So far it seems to be blocked for CenturyLink and TDS). This is just what I've observed, and I'm not sure if that's what's actually going on. Unsettling, nontheless.
You can add Comcast to that list.

Edit: using a proxy I am able to reach that site. This is, as Moka said, highly unsettling. Why ISP's, though, would block a site like that is beyond me. The bill would hurt ISP's too.

Add whole of China to the list
LOL, it is so common here that I don't even feel unsettling at all. It's just "oh, that is blocked too?"

And considering how much China, and many other nations for that matter, use American bypassing software to access sites blocked by nation-wide censorship - without it, the Arab Spring would never have happened.

And now our government is trying to make such sites illegal. The very software that allows American ideals of freedom to be spread across the globe, is now targeted by American politics. If this were the Cold War still, the USSR would be laughing at us.

I've been following this for a while, and it's really starting to worry me now as well. Who knows what will happen, but lets hope that it's not passed. :/ At the moment it looks like congress isn't doing a good job of debating it though...

Question, what day is the voting?
