Anybody else wanting a Lion King short film made?

Anybody else wanting a Lion King short film made?

If anyone saw Cars 2 over the summer, you got treated to the Toy Story Short "Hawaiian Vacation" and today Pixar announced they are making a second Toy Story short. And if you plan to watch the 3D rerelease of Beauty and the Beast come January, you'll get to see a Tangled short. Source: http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2 ... -film.html

My question is: If these films can have them, why can't the Lion King? Anybody agree? :D

Because it's Pixar, and they use 3D models for their movies. You can't cut and paste hand-drawn animation into a new short film. The only difference between The Lion King and a Lion King short is the production time.

On the other hand, these Pixar shorts reuse just about everything.

Oh I agree, it would take some time. But they've already made one hand drawn short: "The Ballad of Nessie" (which was shown in front of Winnie the Pooh) and I want to say that they showed a hand drawn Goofy cartoon in front of Meet the Robinsons, can't remember for sure though...

The other film I was thinking of "How to Hook Up Your Home Theater"

The only thing I can see as to why The Lion King in 3D wasn't attached with a theatrical short was because the 2D Animation department at Disney had their hands full with different projects. Because of this, there wasn't enough time to produce another short.

After work on Winnie the Pooh was wrapped up, there was an interim time between that and their next project, The King of Elves. I assume the animators spent that time making the LK bloopers to go with the Blu-Ray release. To back this up, an interview with Don Hahn on Big Hollywood stated he "called the original animators and asked them if they could come back and animate Scar or Mufasa and all of them said ‘yes.’" The time to produce those bloopers would take roughly half a year or less, and to begin to commense work on The King of Elves which will take 2 years to make, there wasn't enough time to produce another theatrical short.

Oh no, I wasn't talking about having a short film attached to The Lion King. I meant why can't they make a short film about The Lion King and attach it to some future release. There is precedent: Toy Story and Tangled got this same treatment.

Oh. I must have misunderstood you. Sorry. :innocent: Now, to really answer your question, I can first state that no one at Disney pitched an idea about making a Lion King short, so none has been made. Plus, I believe Disney's through The Lion King franchise, so they're more focused on their lastest franchises and projects to make a theatrical short. Fianlly, I assume computer-animated theatrical shorts are more quicker to make than hand-drawn shorts.

Sorry about double posting.

Well, Noah, you're finally getting your Lion King short.

A website confirms a new Timon & Pumbaa short will be attached with the Blu-Ray releases of The Lion King II and .

The premise of the short is about Timon and Pumbaa gazing at the night sky as the star constellations resemble their favorite meal, insects.
