Best musical part of TLK

Best musical part of TLK

Postby Wrightfan » November 21st, 2011, 12:40 am

Not whole songs but moments.

For me it's the African chant during the part where Timon, Pumbaa and Simba cross the bridge. I love the build-uo "Ahhhhhhhhhh...ah-ahhhhhh" etc...

My top 3 would be the following:

1. Mufasa's Ghost scene. This scene wouldn't have affected me nearly as much had it not been for the music. It's so powerful and amazing. The whole "Lea Halalela" theme is just incredible (if you don't know what I'm talking about I mean the theme that plays basically during the whole movie at different parts, like when Simba cries over Mufasa. That particular theme.)
2. The Busa chant. Seriously, I love it. It's so catchy and has that genuine African feel to it. It just makes me want to run across a field or something.
3. The opening of "Circle of Life". Gives me chills every time. Amazing.

Mine are:

1. Simba walking up towards the tip of Pride Rock before roaring. The music is extremely powerful and gives you that sense of accomplishment in life.
2. Like AdAstra stated, Mufasa's ghost scene. Pretty much the same reasons as her. The music takes you to a whole new level of viewing life from another perspective. The way Mufasa appears to talk to Simba from above the night skies is just incredible.

The rains and Rafiki's tree is the part always gets me someplace deep.

That last happy chorus during CYFTLT.

And I have to give total props to the Hyenas theme, because it's absolutely perfect for them--builds suspense & tension and just musically characterizes the deadly, dicey, dangerous, dizzying tight-rope of a chancey three-ring circus the trio (& indeed all TLK hyenas) can be.

The music was the defining reason why I initially really liked The Lion King. And I'm not talking about the songs, which are great, but also the musical score. So to try and narrow it down and pinpoint a few specific locations, it will be hard, but I can try.

For a long time, the one part I always looked for, but never could find, was the last segment of Under The Stars. - The part staring at 3:25. Believe it or not, I had a hard time finding it. Several years, in fact.

But in the process of searching for that part, I discovered the rest of the songs and music that I had forgotten about. Another segment I found in Under The Stars. is the short bit of vocals from 1:55 to 2:05.

I also rediscovered This land(really love the first 30 seconds) and King of Pride rock. Many love the ending, where Simba climbs to reclaim his kingdom, but I also really like the part just before that - as Astra put it, the "Lea Halalela" theme.

Which then lead to me discovering, along with the rest of the songs and score, the Rhythm of the Pridelands CD. Love all of it. He Lives in You, Busa, Kube, all of them. But I especially love the African songs in it, such as Lea Halalela, Lala, and, well all the others.
When I first discovered this CD, I started playing Battlefield 2142, and even now, I only listen to "He Lives in You" and "Lea Halalela" when I play it. I do worse, because I am in a more pacifist mindset, but I enjoy every minute of it.

I mention this because for me, the music of the Lion King really went so far deep into other aspects of my life, that it was also how I knew that I would never get bored with The Lino King. It would mean that I would have to give up many other things in my life as well.

So really, while I can say that these are specific songs that really stick out to me. All of them do. The music got me hooked on The Lion King, and it keeps me hooked. An excellent story and character help, but I didn't spend years searching for "Simba". I can almost say that I am glad that I didn't know exactly what I was looking for, because in that process of searching for that one small segment of Under The Stars, I really went through a journey of rediscovery that something like looknig up "Simba" could never have done.
