SP and Pocahontas

SP and Pocahontas

Postby changa » October 22nd, 2011, 7:50 pm

They're really similar, I have to say. For example:

Two fighting sides, the Outlanders and Pridelanders, and the whites and natives.
A big battle scene, with both sides.
Kovu is exiled, Smith is threatened to death.
The bad guy tries to get the good guy and one of the protagonists takes the hit.

Anything else?

I never noticed that. In fact, the only movie I've heard compared to SP is Balto II: Wolf Quest.

I've noticed that a looong time ago.

Both The Lion King II and Disney's Pocahontas are very similiar to each other because they're both adapted from the same story, Romeo & Juliet. I believe Jeffrey Katzenberg (then-Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios) said about Pocahontas during its production, "it's got hit written all over. It's Romeo & Juliet, West Side Story, but with American Indians." TLKII director Darrell Rooney stated on the Proud of Simba's Pride documentary that TLKII, you can find on YouTube, was adapted from R&J.

However, Pocahontas is more similiar to West Side Story, which is in itself, is a story adapted from Romeo & Juliet because Kovu is banished by Simba like Romeo was banished by the Prince after killing Tybalt causing Juliet/Kiara to go after him. In Pocahontas, it's slightly different because John Smith isn't banished, but captured by Powhatan's men after the killing of Kocoum.

Pocahontas is very loosely based off of real life events and TLK II is based off of a play. lol Ehh..makes things seem different in that light.

3 words: Romeo and Juliett

Never thought of that before. And I never knew that Disney's version of Pocahontas was based on Romeo and Juliet. I learned something new today. XD
Leaving. Might be back if the bill doesn't get passed.
