Could a Lioness rule the Pridelands?

Yeah...I mean he'd been trained to kill Simba all his life, how do we know for sure that he didn't turn evil again? I personally don't think he did but it's an interesting thought. Certainly very good fan-fic/ RP material =)

Back to topic: Certanly a lioness can rule. I watched BBC wildlife today and heard that a lioness can rule the lands.

A Lioness could indeed rule The Pride Lands, although (Just from a political standpoint) it benefits the Pride to have a King simply because he can win territorial disputes by intimidation rather than confrontation. Where as a Queen would have to fight every time, because I doubt a Lion looking to take over a Pride would be intimidated by a Lioness (no matter how fierce she was).

I imagine that when Kovu and Kiara rule The Pride Lands, Kiara will make the political decisions (I'm sure she will discuss them with Kovu but I think Kiara will have the final word). and Kovu will handle the military decisions (Patrolling and defending The Pride Lands).

Well, I think that you might have to be betrothed before you can officialy become queen, but if they can't find a partner and the current ruler is getting old...They'll just have to make their heir queen, married or not.

If you were a queen, and your mate died during you and your mate's rule, you could probably still rule the Pridelands. I don't see why not. ^^

If a lioness could rule the Pridelands, then isn't the whole plot flawed? The lionesses could have simply overthrown Scar without the help of Simba. But the whole point is that Simba was needed to take Scar's place.

Maybe there are some other complications that I'm just not aware of, but I'm not sure what that would be.

I don't think the the plot is flawed, The Lionesses were too out numbered to fight Scar and the Hyenas on there own. (There is actually a Thread about this)

I don't think that it's a plot flaw. Most monarchies are based on the bloodline of a royal family. Scar's claim to becoming king was not that he was male, but that he was the last surviving member of the royal family. Also, as SimbasGuard pointed out, the lionesses were outnumbered without a strong male to fight on their side.

With or without Simba, the lions were still outnumbered anyway, although your first point does make sense.
