Jempa jumped in. "I think what he's trying to say is that Hammy is trying too hard to follow in Balto's pawprints. He needs to learn that he will never be Balto," he said.

Melony looked at Jempa, "And you're going to say that to his face? You know how much it means to him."

Jempa looked her in the eyes. "He needs to know. It's a tough lesson, but he needs to learn it. Hammy has to become his own dog," he stated.

Melony sighed, "Who should tell him this?" she said, returning Jempa's gaze, "You were his best friend since pup-hood. I think it is best that he hears this from you."

Jempa sighed. "I will. Just remember that I'm only doing this because it has to be done, not because I want to. It pains me to see Hammy like this," he said.
