~ Several Months Later ~
Baya was sun bathing out on the edge of pride rock, feeling content with his position as royal guard to Kovu and Kiara as well as the rest of the royal family. He wasn't too enthusiastic about having to protect them so much as the prospect of battle. He had fought several rogues here and there over the course of his stay in the pridelands, but other then that he'd been with Vitani. After their first intimate encounter, they began to get closer and closer still. Eventually, they were "blessed" with Vitani bearing a cub.
Over the course of that time, Vitani had grown a bit of a belly, and Baya would voluntarily bring her food and get her what she needed to be comfortable. Being a father wasn't the most exciting prospect to him, considering he still had that twinge of fear of losing the cub or the cub being born unhealthy. Then there was the fear of not being a good enough father, which attacked the minds of many other lions, including Kovu. Baya knew however, that Vitani's time was nearing and he only entered the den to give her what she wanted. He didn't want to crowd her, after all.
Whilst he sun bathed at the edge of pride rock, an adolescent Tuli slowly approached Baya from behind. He had grown to about half of Baya's size and his mane was black like Nuka's. He had a mixture of his mother's facial structure and his father's. His voice was eerily similar to Nuka's however. The tan furred adolescent slowly made his way along the stoney surface of pride rock, his claws not even making so much as a sound. Tuli smirked as he nimbly pounced towards Baya, who simply dodged by rolling aside.
Baya placed his paw down on Tuli's black tuft tail to make sure he did not fall off pride rock. "You are too slow." Baya murmured in a bored fashion before yanking Tuli backwards and making him topple onto the stone ground beside him.
"No fair! What gave me away?" Tuli grunted in annoyance, rubbing his head with a frown.
"Your first step was loud. Funny, because your mother always made that mistake too." Baya muttered, giving Tuli his infamous cold stare.
"Pffft! Whatever! Mom could still take on any rogue that dares to step on these lands! In fact, I think I'm right on my way to royal guard status myself!" Tuli said with a proud grin. Baya snorted as he stood and flicked Tuli's nose.
"Awh! Ow!" Tuli yelped falling onto the floor and rolling in pain.
"Not on my watch as lead guard you won't..." Baya murmured as he sat down.
"Baya!" Tupa said walking out of the den. She too had changed a tad bit more in this time. She was far more mature, and never in her life did she again fight out of cruel instinct.
"Hm?" Baya asked as Tuli was still whining about his nose in the background. Tupa smiled as she nuzzled her adoptive father.
"Vitani just gave birth...you have two cubs. Go inside and see them." Tupa said with a joyous look in her magenta eyes. Baya's eyes widened slightly as he pushed past Tupa, trotting into the den. Surrounding Vitani was several other lions and lionesses, an older cub Sarabi, Kovu and Kiara included.
Baya managed to make his way to the middle of the small crowd, and looked down at the exhausted Vitani. He then looked further down between her paws, and his face took its regular expressionless look. Baya slowly stuck his nose between his cubs, and began to lick them a bit more clean. One of them had his fur, the girl, and the other had Vitani's, the boy. They both seemed to be healthy, and Baya looked back up to the mother of his cubs.
"Thank you." Baya uttered the words he had uttered to no one else in his entire life. He nuzzled Vitani, as all his worries were drained. His mate was ok, and his cubs were healthy.
"What will you name them?" Kovu inquired, smiling from where he sat, holding back an excited Sarabi.
"The girl will be Ukame. I will give Vitani the male to name." Baya said as he nuzzled his mate more.
Tuli stepped into the den angrily muttering and rubbing his nose, but gasped when he saw Baya nuzzling Vitani with two little cubs between her paws.
"I've never seen him so at peace..." Tupa commented to her son as she also stepped in with a smile. "I knew he had a heart, even when we were in the desert. The desert just no had place for such compassion...but now he's a father in the pridelands." Tupa murmured as she looked at her own son and gave him an affectionate lick.
"Aw! Gosh mom, how about embarrassing me some more! I just LOVE it..." Tuli frowned with his words dripping sarcasm. He wiped his cheek where he licked her, making his mother giggle.
"Just like your father you are...now lets go meet your cousins..." Tupa said as she led her son to the middle of the crowd as well.
