R-yeah this would be the general First Person Shooter thread.
Anyone play Call of Duty or preferably Battlefield? And is anyone getting MW3 / BF3? :)

I play more Call of Duty. That game is not good for one's stress levels. Freaking campers >.>

YEah I was just playing Modern Warfare 2 :D it's literally over run with campers and noob tubers now. I mostly play it with friends now. You get them in Battlefield too but not as much because of the viechles and bigger maps and stuff.

Like, when I got a legit connection, I destroy the noobs before they even realize im on the same map! But when I have crap connection, I get a crap result unfortunately.

hmmm i probs will get MW3 but not till later on, ive lost interest in the multiplayer side tbh its all a bit samey and theres always noob tubers that just grenade you to death all the time. im defiantly more of a halo fan. the amount of maps weapons game styles is so much more diverse and its not too serious to play which i seem to find MW is. Halo i can laugh at MW i feel i MUST do it or be punished. I will say this though the storyline will have me interested cause if its picking up where 2 left off im am so for it cause whats more epic then a cliff hanger where the world is about to go to hell and for all we know the only hope is 2 brits and a russian... HELL YEAH!

If you are getting bored of COD, I really do suggest Battlefield 3, its pretty similar but better graphics, not as much grenade spam since they cant kill your from 1000 feet. But the buildings are destructible, which stops people camping in them, and there is harriers in it now, but the difference is you actually get to pilot them yourself and stuff.

IDK its easily one of my most hyped games, aside from maybe Uncharted 3 =)

I used to play COD4: Modern Warfare, but I uninstalled it after I finished the game. Not much replay value... But I'm gonna try Battlefield 3, it sounds interesting.

Can anyone recommend me any other first person shooter games? I'm really interested in the genre, but I don't really know what else to play after COD.

^ Battlefield 3 is not actually out yet, its out the.... 28th October, I think. Its just a much more realistic alternative to Call of Duty, and the multiplayer actually requires a bit of strategics, not just running around with a random gun and spraying everything in sight.
Replay value is a problem with these types of games though, because they rely on multilayer a lot.

I dont really play much on PC, but I did love the Delta Force series, mostly because I couldnt play them on my playstation and they were only really for PC. But they were great fun XD, even the wind effects the trajectory of bullets in the game lol

Ermmm what else has been good recently? Ghost Recon series is pretty great, Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2.

And far and away the best FPS game you can get for PC, The Orange Box. This is actually great because it comes with 3 FPS games, Half Life 2 which is just brilliant in all aspects, Team Fortress 2 which is probably the most fun multiplayer still going (and yeah its the game that "nope.avi" thing comes from) and Portal which I dont need to say much about, that game was just hilarious and brilliant XD

Team fortress is the biggest thing going right now for online fps, considering its free to play. however if you play free then you dont get as many new item drops and i dont think your entitled to the release items (as in you preorder a game and get new stuff) but you can still pay for it and get the normal. heck why not by the full orange box or valve set: both portals all the half lifes team fortress, all of them are sweet fps games and fun to play and worth a buy

I was lucky to ask my friend about Portal right in the two week window when it was free to promote the Mac release of Source games. So I got that for free. And then I got TF2 for free. Both are fun, but Portal has no re-play value.

As for Call of Duty, I only have 1, United Offensive, and 2. 1 and UO are the only Call of Duty games that concentrated on the single-player, and therefore have it the best. 2 is alright, but anything later ( I tried CoD 4) is just a joke in single-payer, and I didn't get those. And I absolutely hate the texture/mesh clipping in the Cod games after UO. 2 is a serious offender, where things will pop up five feet from you. So I like the older graphics better.

An FPS that I really like but is not for everyone is America's Army. Multiplayer only, with a low player-base (for Linux and Mac), but its really fun. You only get one life per round, and ballistics are real. So you don't rush like in CoD. In fact, AA has rules that determine what kind of camping you can do instead of banning campers.

Similar to AA is Rainbow Six. Think if RS as AA, but with an excellent single-player campaign. At least, RS 1-3. After Raven Shield, you might as well get CoD.

I also play Battlefield 2142 sometimes. It's unrealistic as heck (same as CoD), but it's future setting makes it easier for me to not scream "It doesn't work that way!".

But at the end of the day, I prefer realism over acrade-ish styles, and therefore for me, AA and RS are more fun than CoD. TF2 is fun because it doesn't pretend to be serious unlike CoD and Battlefield. And people don't claim to be military experts after playing TF2.
