What do you need in a story?

I'm doing more research for my comic.

What do YOU personally look for in a story? What makes you feel let down, if it's not involved?
Do you like a twist? Maybe the good guy MUST die? Perhaps the bad guy gets the girl?
Or do you prefer the straight forward 'goodness preveils and the good guy gets the girl'?

I do know (roughly) how my story is going to go, but I really want to know what you guys love and hate when it comes to stories/movies/comics ^^

Twists, yes, but not so big that you kind of even expect the twist. Is that hard?
I like HOW things are written. Different perspectives, interesting metaphors, how the words just FLOW. I'd like to point out a writing of Cherish's. One of her sentences was, "She dusted off her sleepiness." I notice sentences like that and the story becomes much more worthwhile.
Also, the more dramatic, the better. I do look for a deep story with minimum humor.

When I read comics, books, watch TV I like a love triangle. Yes twists are also good! A main character dieing would also be good. Alot of shows do that.

Twists are great when they aren't predictable, when you make the audience go "OMG WTF JUST HAPPENED". When it's predictable, it's kinda annoying TBH lol. Also, unique, and non-stereotypical characters with interesting backgrounds are great. You don't want a boring stereotype in a story just for plot moving. I'd also say it'll need detail but comics don't really need that.

A good plot. I love books with twists so that you never expect what's going to happen or how it will end, but that's just me. I like decent characters with a good, solid story, but nothing that drags on too much, really. It's nice to really get to know the characters so that the readers feel sorry for them if something goes wrong ect, you know, emotional bonds and the suchlikes. Maybe something different that pulls you in right at the beginning

Thanks guys this is really helpful! There's a few plot twists and I'm trying to develope the characters as much as possible, especially Hiiro (the hero) and Sakura (the bad girl). I think Sakura is the most interesting so far though, since you kinda feel sorry for her, as well as hate her!

The atmosphere. Make the story feel like it's in a world, not a cardboard box. Which really comes down to details, details, and even more details.
I want to know what the ground looks like, why the sky is like, the time of day, etc... While it's a bit too much, and I am lenient with basic descriptions of surroundings, I don't like stories that have a green-screen "insert your own" world due to a lack of description.

So yeah: Details.

I do have to write more down, but as far as the species involved...I even have table manners, swear words and other things like that ^^
The world they live in, is pretty much just Earth, but with different species etc. It is going to get a detailed map soon though

I love stories with love triangles, lets says; The main girl falls for two boys, she has a thing with both of them. They both find out, then resolving in a fight. The two boys make the girl choose between them.
