Is Ed's Stupidity a Mask?

I think he's smart in a very unique, strange way. So in a way, yes I think his stupidity is a mask. I think he's crazy in a way, too.

Wow. I never thought about him this way before. The last time I watched TLK was about a year ago? But even so I always thought he was just stupid, but now I've read through this thread I'm pretty convinced that he's just crazy and actually pretty smart.

Bump!!!! Well, not really. I have something to actually say for this topic.

I recently saw some of the laser-disk "making of" The Lion King, and this is what the animator of the hyenas said about Ed: The directors always saw Ed as the clown who always knew what was going on, but pretended to be an idiot.

Yeah, I never saw Ed as as dumb as he acts.

My unshakeable & precise deduction is, that Ed is crazy enough to act chronically stupid when he really isn't all that dumb....which is it's own insanity.
