Real life planet of the apes

going to keep this short, cause i dont have much time to go into detail but I want to see some opinions tomorrow XD.
So this is basically a thing where scientists are trying to put human stem cells into primates like apes to give them the ability to possibly use human actions, like talking / communicating in some way.

Now, you can read more here http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/8653 ... nario.html but scientists are warning that maybe the primates will use the power of communication to start some kind of army (if you did not know, an ape could easily rip your limbs off).

LoL kind of an odd one this time XD, but, opinions? If there are any?! =)

No...Just no. Sounds cool for a movie, but stupid for reality. What...What is the point? I just don't see why humans have to mess with every little thing Especially when there really is no benefits, at least that I can think of. Isn't there a better way to spend all that money and effort?

Hmmm I think it might actually be possible to benefit us. If you think about it, primates are probably the closest species to the human race, right? So putting human stem cells in them is probably going to give the most accurate medical research.
Which might sound harsh, but well... Even Cancer Research carry out some research on animals...

^ Nope. They would not be giant, or able to actually speak, I mean think about it this way, we have the ability to speak but we still have to learn to use it, thus the animals would not just start speaking like "Oh hi."

Have you heard of Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes? It is a film, and in it they experiment on a primate(s), wherein they put human stem cells into it so they can use them for medical research and cure diseases like Alzheimer's and stuff. The reason why they used rats is because there was no danger of the test subjects over powering the researchers, and it was more ethical. However, they are arguing that primates are closer to human genetically, and want to do the test on them for better results, which is exactly what happens in the film.

I guess the point here, is that it failed in mice because their genetics produce much faster than ours, so the mice do not develop any humanised traits, they believe that primates would not have this issue, but with the ability to mass communicate it is concerning to governing bodies, who are worried about some sort of Planet of the apes scenario.

More important things to work on than potential cures for diseases? They are not exactly just doing it for the sake of doing it, it is primarily for medical research purposes. Hence all he mixed reactions =)

Yeah you can't use humans for testing, because it is unethical, but at the same time these new advancements like regenerating stem cells, can't be tested out otherwise. They tried mice, which was a failure, so now they are wanting to move on to primates as their genetic structures are more closer to a human than other animals, and governing bodies are saying "No."
