Baya's Struggle [Closed to Kopalover]

Kovu was glad Kiara had her brother, and Simba and Nala were so happy. Though something was bothering Kovu. What did that make him and Kiara now? Were they still king and queen of the pridelands if the first born just arrived? It wasn't too important to press on right now. "Well, we should gather up a hunting party to celebrate. Vitani just fell asleep though, so I think we'll wait I guess."

"Maybe you've fought Baya and don't even know it Kopa. He's staying with us for the time being...He keeps saying they called him the demon of the desert not too long ago." Kiara pointed out.

Kopa shook his head, "I have heard of him though. His mother abandoned him as a small cub, and now he kills." Saying as he looked around. "The Pride I stayed with told me stories. Entertaining ones." Nodding his head and smiling.

Vitani was still beside Baya, she certainly liked this spot. He was warm and his fur was soft, even after all the fights. Also, little Ahadi had warmed up to both of them.

Baya groaned as he felt a cool breeze roll in through Vitani's den. His black mane fell over his face as he drowsily took in his surroundings. He looked to see Vitani under his chin, then to little Ahadi nuzzled into his side. His eyes narrowed as he thought about his position at the moment. He was getting soft. In the desert, no one would get in a certain radius of him. Now, a female was pushing her head under his and a cub was nuzzling into his side, as if there were no threat what so ever! Then again, this den did belong to Vitani so perhaps she wanted to rest as well. Though that didn't excuse the cub. Baya would be sure to let Ahadi know never to get this close again. Baya slowly stood, and made his way out of the den. Ahadi didn't seem too phased.

The sky was darker now, with the sun going down over the horizon. Baya had gotten used to hunting at night, because in the desert it was cooler then. He wondered if Vitani wanted to come, but then ruled the idea out of his head. She probably wanted to spend time with Kopa. The anger had not faded with sleep. Baya still wanted to tear Kopa's throat open. Show Vitani that he was a far better companion. Prove that he was far more worthy then that false prophet of hers. He frowned.

Baya slowly made his way down the pride rock, ignoring many hellos and other such greetings. He slowly made his way to a nearby watering hole. He laid down by it in solitude, looking at his reflection. What had happened to him over the course of a week? One day he's slaughtering entire families in the desert, and the next....he's practically a part of one. It was not in his nature to care about others, but the fact that Vitani had such an impact on him scared the demon of the desert. As for little Ahadi, the pain of his own cubhood brought him closer to the young cub. Baya had lied when he said he had never cried. When his mother had abandoned him, he cried for days. Realizing the desert just soaked up all the tears, he saw there was no point after awhile. That was when the demon of the desert was born.

"What bothers you?" Kovu asked from behind Baya. Baya did not reply as he laid his head down against the dirt. Kovu sat next to him, also looking at his reflection.

"It's not in my place to care you know. Usually you smile at the most awkward moments...to not see you grinning at the prospect of battle...well it disturbs me." Kovu said with a light chuckle.

"It is hard for me to get her out of my mind. I used to kill just for the sake of killing...but that son of theres...Kopa...I want to kill him for ...for..." Baya stumbled around his words.

"Murder is never an answer to anything Baya. It's probably too late for you to hear that...but thats how it is. I know you and Vitani had gotten really close recently...and that you might just...want her for yourself. Though its better to let her choose. If you have to manipulate her into loving you, is it really true? Would you feel like she chose you because she had no other choice?" Kovu asked. Baya growled.

"I don't want it...I don't want any of it. I'd rather die then show any sort of weakness! In the desert that gets you killed!"

"Baya...You aren't in the desert anymore. You are in the pride lands. Just because you care for someone other than yourself, doesn't make you weak. In fact...it'll only make you stronger. Wanting to defend something will give you strength. Strength you will never find in hate." Kovu explained silently.

"If only you fought as well as you spoke king. Perhaps you wouldn't need my help to defend your lands." Baya murmured. Kopa sighed, but grinned.

"Life can surprise you Baya. I just want you to know that you should always have an open mind. Also...you should let Vitani know how you feel before jumping to conclusions that Kopa needs to die for her to love you. You never know if it's mutual." Kovu pointed out as he started to make his way towards the main den. Baya looked at his reflection once more, and his eyes widened.

He saw a version of himself without scars. Without that crazed look in his eyes. He saw no demon of the desert. "A weak king trying to tell me how to go about winning affection. Fool. She will only abandon me in the end anyway." Baya murmured as he flicked the water to eliminate the reflection. He just sat there for the time being, just looking at the stars.

Kopa was still awake, some lionesses and lions told him that Baya was living here, he did want to meet him. Thinking about it while he was in the den, he decided to go meet Baya. Getting up, he noticed Kovu coming back. Nodding and smiling, he walked down Priderock. Baya was at the waterhole. Another smile was released from Kopa.

"Um hey, I'm Kopa. I heard all about you, my pride told me about you. I-i mean my other Pride." Saying as he sat beside Baya. Looking into the water at his reflection, tons of scar's filled his face. The same with Baya's face, they weren't to different.
