The Member Dens

I think there were other rewards for being active, too. I remember having your own page on MLK or something and an email. Maybe those can stay if people still feel the need to have rewards? I don't think people should be part of a community just to get a reward, they should be part of it because they like it. The staffroom is another matter, the dens are completely unimportant, to me anyway. Meh, I suppose I agree with you on the last argument, maybe the member den's topics should be locked and we can add sub-forums for asking threads and a general chatting thread?

That's just the thing, KM. Why should all the members who want a den feel that they need to strive for perfection to have their own board on a slightly moderate sized forum? In the end, what really of much does this accomplish? If everyone is trying to aim for goals like this, the forum will just end up being spammy and less enjoyable. As I said before, it was a nice little feature while this forum was a lot smaller, but now we just need to shape things so that they can fit in with the number of members that are active on this forum.

Exactly. I honestly despise spam (which is why I was all for the custom titles).

That I have to agree with, because I was spamming the heck out of some boards to make my posts count more... good decision to get rid of those, but not this...

I don't see how the Member Rooms are that much of a big deal... The only reason they were used was because of the ask threads and chatting threads, which can be easily be replaced and be placed in The Den. There's no need for member dens since pretty much everything you can post there can be also placed in The Den AND will gain more attention in The Den.

It is different matter but the principal of having everyone treated as equal applies to it, since it is being used here with out much justification.

Does it increase spam though?
Read this quote from the about the member dens thread, "Moderators will be observing who is outstanding, contributing, active and fair" so if someone is spamming, then you guys are not going to give them a den, but if someone is being outstanding in terms of quality posts, is active and all that good stuff, then they feel rewarded for it. Now though, they will not.

I would agree with a sub-board in the den for the ask me threads, but other then that, I'm thinking it seems better at this point to just let these member dens go. As I said, if everyone is trying to strive for this reward, all their really doing in the end is eigther spamming.

@IvorySage, it's a mod thing, less spam = more activity/new members. If you want the community to increase and become more fun, you got to be willing to spare some things.

WS: But I don't think having dens had anything to do with notable amounts of spam...
