MLK 'required reading'

Postby Azdgari » July 8th, 2011, 6:53 pm

Just a thought I had. What are TLK fanfics or stories you've read that you think are so good everyone should read them?

The Pridelanders is the best fanfiction I've ever read, for any series. It's pretty amazing, if you have the time and want a story you can sink your teeth into (it's long, then check this one out for sure.

Also, The Pride That Never Was by our very own Akril is a flawless rewrite of SP, except (in my opinion) it's lightyears better than SP ever was.

Who else has stories they want to share? :3

For future reference, please don't post your own fanfic (unless it happens to be earth shatteringly good! :3).

This is a wonderful fanfic by Kopalover for an AU RP we're in together:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16971

It centers on Mheetu/Vitani (Vitani is Simba's adoptive sister in this version).

I've already touted this series on other occasions here on MLK, but if we're talking about what we feel, are the best TLK Fan Fictions/stories out there, than I have to give another plug to Chronicles Of The Pride Lands. It is, by far, the most well written and emotionally driven fan fiction relating to TLK, that I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It builds upon the already amazing story of TLK, while adding in its own lore and legends. The writers of this story series, John Burkitt and David Morris, truly capture everything that makes TLK what it is, and somehow, manage to make it better in almost every other way.

These stories are very long in length, and might not appeal to all readers, but I highly highly HIGHLY recommend them to any fan who is looking for a story series that will pull them in and never let them go! That's honestly how these stories are. Once you start reading them, if you get into them, you'll never want them to end.

If you are interested in reading these stories, or just finding out a little more information about them, visit the link below to download the four books in the series, as well as the three companion stories that go with the four books. While you're visiting the site below, you should also check out some of the other stories featured on this site, as they are also very enjoyable.

Indeed, Chronicles of the Pridelands is a helluva fanfic, and quite an achievement. Definitely a worthy addition. ^^

Although I would read The Pridelanders before saying it's 'by far the most emotionally driving TLK fanfic.' :3

lol, well, I only meant, out of the fan fictions that I've personally read myself. I'm giving The Pridelanders a shot though. I'm finding it a bit difficult to get into though, probably due to the first person aspect that the author decided to go with. It's a bit odd to me, especially since he/she takes control of multiple characters and narrates things from the first person perspective. There's also a few things that conflict withint the story, but seeing as this is just a fan fiction, it's not that big of a deal. I'll let you know what I thought of it once I'm done with it completely though.

Aye, while it definitely lacks the impossibly precise attention to detail within the TLK universe that Chronicles of the Pridelands has, ultimately I ended up more invested in the Pridelanders characters. But to each his own; hard to pick between the Da Vinci and Van Gogh. ^^

I personally have a love/hate relationship with Chronicles of the Pridelands. As fan-fiction goes, Chronicles is very well written and is long. My writing style goes along the path of long and descriptive, so for me, Chronicles is a major find, and I enjoyed reading it. A lot.

Content might offend people. Read at your own discretion.
Spoiler: show
But it is not for everyone. My biggest complaint is that by trying to expand on the spirituality of The Lion King, the authors accidentally (or purposefully) included their own Christianity into Chronicles. The Lion King never had the word 'god' in it. In Chronicles, control+f 'god' and watch the page light up. For me, this is a big issue because I will sometimes forget that I am reading a Lion King fan-fic and instead think that I am reading the bible. If I wanted to, I can burn Chronicles if I wanted to. But I won't.

In my opinion, you can read Chronicles of the Pridelands if you want. It's a great read, but the flaws are huge. I read the entire thing once, and might review parts of it again. But in the end, I believe that the only reason why Chronicles of the Pridelands is so famous is because of its length, and because it came out in the infancy of the internet. (It came out before other competitors existed). I am glad that I read it, and it does deserve most of the praise it got, but in the end, there are plenty of other, albeit much shorter, fan-fiction works that in my opinion are much better.
