Meh, personally I'd like her more if she wasn't like every other Disney princess. "OMG I MET THE BOY OF MY DREAMS DISREGARD EVERYTHING I JUST WANT TO BE WITH HIM <3" Then again, that may originate from the many teenagers who talk like that that piss me off, I dunno. I like her spontaneous personality though. But yes, like Simba66 said, it was bad writing and not the character itself. SP could have been so much better..

There seems to be quite a lot of information going down about this topic. BloodshadeLioness and Kopa23 both putting in their thoughts why Kiara was good or bad. I voted she's OK because complexity makes a character good. Bloodshade said that Kiara never had a chance to learn from her childhood, and yes she did seem younger than Simba and Nala were in the original. But may I just say that instinct plays a huge role in this. Knowledge is one thing that Kiara gained as the story went on, but in her hunting it was pretty much all up to instinct. So the age argument doesn't really work there. And to Kopa23, almost every Disney princess had that reaction because it was part of the fairy tale. Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin. All of them were fairy tales before they were movies. And then there are some princesses who absolutely despised the prince until the end. Tiana, Rapunzel, and Belle to name a few.

All in all, both statements are true in their own ways, and both statements are false in their own ways. But we could learn a lot from these posts. I personally never thought about putting Kiara's age into the mix, so thank you Bloodshade for enlightening me with that. I also see more of a connection with Kiara to other Disney princesses so thank you Kopa23.

I voted for "not a fan". I don't hate her - she is not a total brat and the like, but she is still rather bad as a character. For a Lion King character, Kiara is rather two-dimensional: she is the rebellious princess who wants "more". And in the end, she saves the day. For The Lion King, this kind of character, while okay for many movies, is very lazy. In my opinion, The Lion King is more than most movies, and therefore, the characters should reflect that.

I see your point, Kopa23, and somewhat agree with it. Perhaps the story would have been better if they fleshed out the love between Kiara and Kovu more, maybe made it take longer for them to fall in love. I agree that Kiara did seem a bit blinded by love - she didn't ever consider that Kovu might actually be a threat, which would have made a lot more sense if Kovu and Kiara had spent more days together (then again, I think we did need someone who would actually give Kovu a fair chance, and Kiara was that someone). I don't think Kiara wanted to disregard everything, though. She had the chance to disregard everything and run away with Kovu, but she didn't - they went back to the pridelands and united their prides as one.

I know what you mean. I personally love that about her, though. For example: Ariel`s daughter, Melody, is very much like her mother, both in personality and looks.

I feel it`s great that Kiara is her own person, and not a female version of Simba. I still think she has inherited certain traits from both her parents, without being too much like either one.
I voted "I LOVE Kiara, she's a perfect character!"

I've seen a lot of hate for Kiara, and I feel it was unjustified. This may sound crazy, but I actually like Kiara and Simba in SP! :pretty: I think that many TLK fans, myself included, expected Simba to be almost exactly like Mufasa in the sequel, and expected Simba's son to be almost exactly like Simba. The more I think about it, the more unoriginal it would have been. Instead, we got SP Simba, who is a good king but has trouble because he tries too hard to be Mufasa. And we got Kiara, who is adventurous like Simba, but doesn't really want to take over the throne and doesn't grow up to be as big and powerful of a lioness as Nala did in TLK. I thought that Kiara's character was a nice contrast to Simba and Nala's characters in TLK.

Kiara gets disliked for not being that smart and being a bad huntress, but I think both of those character traits are part of what makes her interesting, and they make sense. Simba was overprotective, so she didn't have the chance to learn as much through adventures as other lions did, and of course she wouldn't have been able to develop good hunting skills because with Simba's overprotectiveness she wouldn't have been allowed to chase much more than butterflies until the day of her first real hunt. I think Kiara haters also forget to take "adult" Kiara's age into account: she's probably the lion equivalent of 15 human years, whereas adult Simba and Nala were in their early 20's in TLK. Didn't you get better at things and get smarter between ages 15 and 20? I sure did :P

So yeah, that's my 2 cents on Kiara XD
Couldn't have put it better myself. That's exactly my view of Kiara as well. Nicely done. ^^ I always find it amusing when people dislike Kiara because she is nothing like Simba, since it's silly to think that every offspring must be like their parents. It's because this isn't the case, that makes the world such an interesting and diverse place, and like PrincessKiara stated, it's Kiara's unique personality that sets her apart, in my opinion too.

I agree with Princess Kiara that Melody was a lot like her mother - too much like Ariel in my opinion (I really disliked Little Mermaid 2, but this is trailing into off-topic territory).

Back on-topic, I also love how Kiara's design reminds me of Sarabi =)

I didn't particularly like Kiara to be honest. Maybe because she reminded me too much of mischievous Simba when he was growing up? I'm not quite sure, but this is just my opinion.
