"Missions?" Mipa said. "You both must be important in your pride then."
She waddled back and checked on the injured lioness, who appeared to be asleep. There wasn't really much Mipa could do for her; she examined her for broken bones, licked at the wounds to keep them clean.
"My pride never gave me missions. Nothing more than, oh... 'go get some exercise you lazy cub!' or, 'learn to hunt like a real lioness.' That's why I left. To show them I could make it on my own.
"So what are your three missions?" she said, glancing sideways at Songo. He looked like he was ignoring her. "Or is that private knowledge?"
Carefully, she settled down onto the sand by the injured lioness, putting her tummy down carefully, as it was still overfull. As it pressed on the sand it spread out to the sides, making her look even bigger, from the top at least, and only the paws of her front legs poked out of the folds of fat around her chest and neck.
