"Adult" Board?

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!

[quote="Nitro"]There's another board I go on that has an adult board. What they did is they put a password on the board but told the password in the description so it would give people a choice if they really wanted to go in. Moka could also add to the rules about an offense if people under 18 went in.

I don't mind the idea. I'm not sure about logistics, though. Any password would be known to everyone pretty quickly. We would have to be cool with the idea that if members who are under eighteen want to get in there, they can. And that's how I think it should be. If members who are under eighteen want to browse and post and prove that they're mature enough to participate in adult discussion, all power to them. If not and they get scarred, tough luck. MLK is not responsible because they technically weren't supposed to be in there. But I believe actually enforcing the age limit is wrong. Age often has little correlation with maturity. Under the proposed age limit, I wouldn't be allowed to discuss. Which would be a real bummer! :3

I don't think putting a adult board on MLK would be a good thing to do. Because there are tons of people under 18 on this site and from my experience alot of parents go on the websites that the kids go on like facebook to make sure nothing innapropriant is on there so putting that in would prevent people under 18 to view this website because like my parents if they see things like that they will make me quit the site and never view it again. I'm sure that there are other websites that the "adults" can view if they want to look at things about sex. I'm all for politics and religion and things like that on here and please don't ignore this post because I'm 13. So please think about this because I know my parents would make me quit this site, if there was something like that on here. I know if my parents did that I would cry because I love this site so much I get very emotional about things I like. And I saw a post on here claiming that religion and politics are adult things, no they are not children talk about this too, I personally help my parents keep up on politics and even tell them who would be a good choice in a vote. And religion is for anyone I'm 13 an I go to church every Sunday since I was a baby religion is something everyone can discuss. Please no flaming about this post I am only speaking my mind.

I have to agree with TheLionQueen. Being a Lion King fansite, most of the members here are under 18. To have a section that is restricted to the majority of the members... what kind of logic is that again?

There's no real need to have any topics that would require an adult only restriction.

That's a great point, TheLionQueen. Do you think that even if the forum were password protected, your parents would still be uncomfortable with it?

And on that note... what do we really need the forum for? How much sex, drugs, and rock and roll can we really discuss in the context of a G-rated disney movie? I'm not advocating against having the forum, I'm just curious. Now that I think about it, I'm really not sure what about TLK I would want to discuss in an adults only atmosphere. If we want to have a 'serious' discussion forum where the emphasis is on actually listening to one another and making insightful posts, I could get behind that.

Azdgari we are what you call a traditional Italian family so if my fated were to see such a thing he would most likely ban me from the computer. We are very strict in this house and I know many families like that so having a adult board would ruin some kids lives. And even if I tried go explain to my father is was password protected he would just say, "So kids can hack things these days you children know too much about computers and isles not safe!" I really don't believe this is the site to speak about sex.
Religion and politics perfect I talk about that all the time.

I agree with Thelionqueen. I would love to be able to talk about religion and politics, but I think putting an 18+ rating on any board will open the doors to all the sorts of refuse you can find elsewhere in the internet. I think we should call it something else besides 'mature', maybe 'controversial,' and keep the material to what you'd let a 13 year old watch.

TLQ: Italy is cool:). Welease Woger!

^ Thanks for agreeing with my point because I really don't want my father to throw me off the computer.

I'm neutral about this. But what about this: In many forums there are zones that only specific people can see / use. I mean, if someone is over 18 and wants to join the Adult Board, Moka (or the Moderators) can add him to the zone and then he is able to use it, and all the other users don't even see the board.

Moka said it'd be done in groups. But...why is everyone focusing on sex? I said that would be allowed to be discussed there, but it wouldn't be the ONLY thing! You could talk about ANYTHING in there.

TheLionQueen: I'm sure we could find some way to do it, so your parents wouldn't know :) Still just an idea
