3DTV Thread

Postby FlipMode » June 12th, 2011, 9:28 am

I can haz a topical debate for you guys! With the upcoming release of TLK on 3D Blu Ray, as well as the fact that now there are a lot more games and films releasing or already out that support it, will you be upgrading to 3DTV or have one already?
If you are, post a link to ones you are looking at getting too =), especially if you find good deals going on.

Aw, man, I'm dying for a 3DTV. My mother keeps running in and out of Best Buy looking at them. We're thinking of getting a really neat one by Sony, I forget which one it is though. When I get more info on it I'll post the link here. =)

I bought a new TV a few months ago. It says "supports 3D". I have some channels that seem to work, but haven't tried it out with 3D-Glasses yet.
But I'll just buy TLK in 3D and try it out :D

I don't think that getting a 3DTV will be in any way worth it for several years.

My gran has one.

I'm not getting one, it's a waste of money that I don't have in my opinion. Plus, seeing things in 3D should be reserved for the Cinema, that's what makes it special...

I don't have one, and I don't plan on getting one until 1) The hype fades a little and they become cheaper or 2) I become rich (which could take a while). I've never even watched a movie in 3D yet so I have no idea what I'm missing out on xD

Do you even know what 4D looks like? Hint: it's not what the wiki article shows it as.

As for 3D TV: Advice for everyone: WAIT!!!! At this moment, no one really knows how to make 3D movies, and the technology is really bad. A person who works in the 3D TV industry actually claims that polarized glasses (what you guys are used to) are a dead end. Also, TVs themselves are also shifting away from LCDs and are moving towards OLEDs and Plasma screens. So don't be mad if you get a 3D TV now and see that in a few years, they are totally different. WAIT a while!

My advice is this: wait at least 5 years, preferably 10, to get a 3D TV. You need to give the technology time to mature and settle down. And time for Hollywood to learn how to film in 3D is also required.

With new technology, the first customers always lose: they pay the most for the worst quality. (Beta testers)

I actually meant the 4D-Cinemas in some theme parks where your seats are moving. But actually it was meant ironic :D

@DGFone That's SO TRUE ^ I mean, does anyone else remember the first real wide-screen TVs? I certainly do. Sure, they were wide, but they were also extremely thick. And the resolution was horrible, all grainy and dull. Technology has definitely developed since then, and will keep doing so. No need to rush =)
