Kovu's ears compared to everyone else's....

I've always been aware of that fact. Kovu just has different ears, and it's probably just to make him look different from the other cubs, and what Akril said, of course...

My thoughts exactly. Even before TLK 1 1/2 came out, I always felt Kovu had those ear marks because he is older than the cub Simba we saw. He also has cheek fluff and his distinctive head tuft that makes him look older. And if you take the deleted scene of the first outlander sighting into consideration, Kovu is older than Kiara because he was talking/walking when she was born. But it is a deleted scene, so not technically official. But you get what I mean.

^ Yeah in all Kovu must be at least a week or two older than Kiara she looks younger than him in the first time we see Kovu, he had a mane tuft and cheek puffs. You know Simba had full ear rims at a little younger than Kovu so maybe as he was growing his ear rims started to retract like Simba's.

That is very odd, but I'm sure the creators just wanted to mix it up a bit

I`ve never thought much about that, to be honest.
I actually think it looks nicer with a narrow stripe in the inside of the ear rather than the stripe Simba has. Personally, I think that subtle design difference is due to different animators working on SP. Besides, I don`t think there is any rule in the TLK universe that says all male cubs have to have ear stripes. Some do, some don`t. It`s genetics.

Yes. It irritates me that it's just Kovu and Nuka!

Anway, I suppose Kovu's ears are odd. I think Scar's were typical black ear rims like Simba. Perhaps Kovu's real father had those kind of ears. Though that can't really be confirmed. But teen Simba had ears like that. But Kovu is a cub...I give up XD It's still interesting though ^^

I always thought it was to make him look like he had Scar's ears...but rougher since he was a cub. The first time I saw TLK I noticed Scar had those soft, narrow, inside-the-ear-rims.

On the lines that have puppies and compare them with those of Kovu. If you see this image we can see that Kovu is a lion and a teenager, maybe a little bigger than Malka and a little smaller than the adolescent Simba.
