A very long time ago, elves sailed to a land called Alaegasia. They made their home there in Du Weldenvarden(a large forest) among the 2 other races, dwarves and dragons. A young and foolish elf killed a dragon as if it were just a mere animal, and enraged, the dragons declared war on the elves which they called Du Skulblaka Fyrn, meaning The Dragon War in their language, and it lasted for many yars with neither side relenting. Finally, an elf found an abandoned dragon egg, which he raised and together, they showed the elves that dragons were just as intelligient as them. The 2 sides formed a treaty, of which emerged Dragon Riders that were elves whom bonded their consciousness together with their dragon partner and assumed the roles of protectors for all of Alaegasia, and some years later when humans arrived, they were also added to the treaty, but since they were not originally in there, they did not gain immortality/strength/speed/grace that the elves did.
If that's too confusing, then just tell me so I direct you to the Inheritance Cycle wiki, or just explain further myself.
For those who do now what I'm talking about: This takes place before The Fall, when Anurin led, in the peaceful times when all 4 races flourished under them, and ends a bit after the Battle of Vroengard when Galbatorix and the Forsworn establish themselves.
For now, the characters are:

Dwarves, or knurlan in their language, live mostly in the rocky Beor mountains in various cities. Their king is Hrothgar, who is newly elected and will be played by anyone. They are smaller than the other races, and are not a part of the Riders due to the dislike of both dragons and elves their ancestors carried. They believe in a different set of gods and that they were created from the stone. They have 12 different clans named after animals in the mountains, and a clanleader for each that together form a council. Note: They speak a different language, that will be written as english just color-coded, and do not say my, instead saying mine. Ex. Instead of saying "My homeland is in the Beors," they would say "Mine homeland is in the Beors."
Elves lives everywhere, but mostly in Du Weldenvarden, a large forest to the north wherein lies Ellesmera, their mosty beautiful city among the pines. They are highly skilled in magic, and have grace and beauty that rivals even angels. However, they are very stoic and proud, and place courtesy above everything. Their capital is Illeria, in the middle of Alaegasia which is home to all races. They speak only the Ancient Language, and are immortal but they can be killed in battle. It only stops them from aging.
Humans, are basically the same are IRL humans, and live everywhere. They sailed to Alaegasia years ago, and live mostly in the south by the Spine Ridge.
Dragons are highly intelligient beings capable of breathing fire at 6 months, and never stop growing as long as they live, which is forever due to their immortality. They are naturally wild-spirited and hard to control, and have a thirst for blood that cannot be quenched. Wild dragons are the worst, and bonded dragons are at least semi-mild.
