Vitani nodded and smiled a little at Fadhili. She knew there wasn't anything else that could really be done to help the Pridelanders unless the person who did help wanted to face the consequences. Zira would most definitely
not be pleased and Vitani knew that her mother would have no mercy in dealing with traitors. Even though Vitani agreed that she should be a bit kinder to the Pridelanders, she still wouldn't trust them and she would still be cautious when near them.
"Yeah, I know. We have to be discreet when helping, though. Zira won't be too happy if she finds out." Vitani told her friend, looking over her shoulder to make sure nobody was eavesdropping on their conversation. She couldn't see anyone, but if somebody was listening in...well...then they would regret it.
"so...weren't we meant to go hunting? Or do you need some time to think about whatever it was you were going to think about? Vitani asked, aware that they still couldn't find any animals to hunt. Why there weren't any animals around? Vitani had no idea.
==========
Vah was surprised that Kiara wanted him to try and impress her by successfully hunting something. But, then again, he should've expected it really, as Kiara had that type of personality. Not that Vah was annoyed or anything because he would gladly take up a challenge, and Kiara's challenge was no different.
"Well, if that's what you want, then I'll do it. Vah told her, accepting the challenge given to him. He wasn't planning on disappointing her.
"I don't work very well under pressure, though. he quickly added, throwing caution to the wind. It was true though. He didn't work well while others were watching him and putting him under pressure. That wouldn't stop him though.
Vah fixed his attention on the herd of Antelope and blocked every nearly every other distraction out of his mind. He steadied his breathing and crouched as low to the ground as he possibly could, concealing himself within the tall grass. He was very careful when placing his paws on the ground, as he didn't want the herd to be alerted by any sudden noises. After a few minutes of stalking, he had managed to get within 75m of the Antelope. He edged closer, still crouched as low as possible, but before he could do anything else, something caught his eye. A herd of Wildebeest just another couple of hundred metres away. Vah changed course from the Antelope to the Wildebeest and began making his way slowly towards them.
Taking down a Wildebeest would definitely impress Kiara and Vah felt that he could kill one of them anyway, despite it being more difficult than taking down an Antelope. His heart rate slowly began to increase, but he managed to keep his breathing under control and as quiet as possible. After a minute or so, he was just the right distance away from the herd of Wildebeest to start hunting one of them. He quickly picked out what he thought was one of the weaker Wildebeest and readied himself to start chasing it.
Vah swallowed once out of nervousness but forced himself not to let that hinder him during the hunt. He inched a little closer to the Wildebeest and then started to gradually speed up, coming out of the crouching position he had been in for the past few minutes. In a matter of seconds, Vah was sprinting at full speed. He could feel the adrenaline rush through his blood and noticed the Wildebeest look towards him, startled by his sudden appearance. Vah didn't slow down and if anything sped up even more, gritting his teeth as he got closer. He ignored all of the other Wildebeest and focused on the, what he thought was, the weaker of the herd. As soon as Vah saw the Wildebeest turn and run, though, he knew something was wrong, but he couldn't give up now.
Vah kept his speed up, slowly gaining ground on the animal. Sure enough, after a few more seconds he was in pouncing distance of the Wildebeest. Transferring all of his strength into his hind legs, Vah leapt onto the back of the animal and dug his claws into it, gripping on as hard as he could. As Vah was about to bite the Wildebeest's neck, the animal, in its pained struggle to get its attacker off of its back, swung its head back and sliced Vah's cheek in doings so with one of its horns. The Wildebeest violently swung its head back the opposite direction and pulled Vah off of its back, at the same time ripping through Vah's cheek as he fell. He could feel no pain, despite the large injury he had just been inflicted. He lay there with no knowledge of what was going on around him and didn't even notice the pool of blood gathering around his head. His breathing was fast and shallow, his eyes staring out into open space.
