To be fair, Romeo and Juliet was a play originally and not a book. It is based on a book, which is based on a play :D.

Also to be fair, so many things are based on Romeo and Juliet, that most likely you will come across a clone before the actual original play.

The thing is, Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy (they both die at the end of it) whereas TLK:SP is a happy ending :D but, then again, children wouldn't really like TLK:SP being a tragedy, would they? ;) Still, I think it's definitely based on Romeo & Juliet other than the deaths.

I was 9 when I first saw SP, so I wouldn't have cared either way. But you're right, small children would have cried or something if themain characters had died.

Yeah, sad.. I may not like SP all that much but I find Romeo and Juliet ridiculous, so... XD

Not many people know it, but TLK 1 1/2 is based on "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead". :p

Ah, but the same is true of Hamlet. (Almost) Every main character dies at the end. So of course TLK couldn't follow it exactly and gave it a happy ending. :)

Yes like just about everyone else has said Lion King 2 was based off Romeo and Juliet. The creators even sad so in various articles (if I remember correctly).
