Good Night! With that, Simba closed his eyes and went to sleep. He was a little worried about Timon, but the meerkat assured him that everything was fine. Simba reluctantly lay next to Timon and Pumbaa and closed his eyes. Kamari also lay down next to them, and fell asleep quickly.
For Simba, the day's events played themselves over in his mind. He smiled in his sleep as he thought of how much fun he had with Kamari. The game of tag, when Kamari won, and climbing up the tree. It was a good idea, but when the branch broke, I realized that maybe, maybe it wasn't. he thought to himself. While he climbed a few trees before in the Pridelands, non were as tall as those in the jungle. Nala would surely be jealous, to find out how high up he went...
Before he could stop it, a wave of sadness washed over Simba. As much as he tried, thoughts of his old home kept coming back, even stronger than before. He tried to ignore them and go to sleep, but couldn't. He imagined chasing Nala, strolling with his father, and other activities he liked back in the Pridelands. Then the inevitable happened, and he once again experienced the stampede that caused Mufasa's death.
Unable to force himself to sleep, Simba opened his eyes, only to discover the jungle dark around him. Tears streaked his muzzle, and he quickly wiped them off. He looked up and spotted a few stars poking through the thick canopy. He then looked to his side and saw that the others were still asleep. He envied them at how peaceful they looked. Getting up, he slowly inched past them. His tail accidently brushed against Kamari, and he froze. The cheetah didn't seem wake from his sleep, nor did he move. Simba again started to slowly walk away. Once he was far enough, he stopped being so careful, and walked faster. He found a log that crossed the river and walked on it. On the center, he lay down and looked at the water. Despite the dim lighting, he could still see the outline of his reflection. Feeling miserable, he tore his gaze away from the water, and put his face in his forearms, and let the sadness he felt overtake him.
He wanted the night to end, to be able to find distractions for his feelings, but he knew that this night would stretch on for a long time.
