Simba saw Kamari leap on top of a log and hop off. Kamri had to slow down for that. Simba knew he had to do better. Using Kamari's lost momentum to his advantage, Simba took a large breath and jumped up as hard as he could.
For a brief moment, Simba thought he mistimed it and would smash into the log. He pulled his legs closer to his body, and grinned as his body sailed over the log. His grin faltered when he saw that the ground was farther down on the other side of the log. Simba braced for the landing. Pain jolted through his legs as he landed, but Simba succeeded in what he wanted to do. He had leaped over the log without having to step on it. Victory was in reach. Didn't see that one coming? Did you now? he shouted over at Kamari, who was tantalizingly close now. But so was the oasis.
Pumbaa looked at the two cubs race to the oasis. I'd imagine they can scare away the birds that try to steal our grub! he told Timon joyfully.
