What Do You Think Really Killed Mufasa?

(I'm going to put a spin on this topic)

But what if he wasn't dead at all when the stampede ended, only unconscious and Scar finished him off when the hyenas were chasing Simba? After all, Scar said he killed Mufasa, not caused his death.

Hmm, interesting. But thats not likely. I don't think he was supposed be unconscious.

Yeah, I know, but lots of things in TLK are unlikely. Like when Scar threw Mufasa off the cliff, he dug his claws into him and should have drawn blood that Simba could have smelled and found out Scar had killed his father just moments after it happened, or that Pumba and Timon just coincidentally stumbled across a dying lion cub that turned out to be the king, or that right at the moment Simba was saved from the stampede a wildebeest threw him back in where he jumped up right next to his murderer. I'm not saying that Mufasa surviving the actual stampede is really what happened, but it's a possibilty. (In truth, I actually believe the wildebeest trampled him though)

Yup. I don't see how the fall could kill him.

Maybe if he landed too hard, he might break a few bones, but without the wildebeest he would have lived. Besides, he was really muscled so that would have asorbed most of the impact force.
