And I agree with you.

Sharp, horns, panic, speed, broken bones, and hooves don't go together well. Surely, the wildebeasts killed him.

Of course he wouldn`t survive if he were to fall directly down on the rocks.
I just think that what killed him was landing on top of the wildebeest. He was falling on his back, directly down on the running animals.. right down on their sharp horns. I, at least think that`s when he died. He probably broke his back/neck and got punctured by the wildebeest horns.[/quote]
If he landed on the wildebeest, there would be dead wildebeest underneath him, yes?

Well, yes. I don`t think the wildebeest who got Mufasa on top of them would survive it. So we should be able to see a dead wildebeest or two lying in the gorge, but there are none. This would of course suggest that he landed straight on the ground.
It`s just that when I watch the movie, it looks to me as if Mufasa is falling right on top of the animals.

We do see that at one point a wildebeest stumbles and falls. We don`t see wether it gets back up, but it`s quite possible that animal got trampled by the others and died. And we don`t see that lying around either. But I get your point, it`s not likely that a wildebeest would survive getting a lion thrown on top of them. ;)

Indeed. And anyway, the impact of falling would have killed him anyway. I guess they wouldn't have shown dead bodies of the wildebeest, but then again, everything that happens in movies is for a reason. To me, because they didn't show the wildebeest killing him, it didn't kill him. They would've shown, perhaps, Mufasa land and try to get up, and then a really iconic shot of him, like, "NOOO" and then get trampled. But the fact that you saw him fall in a really dramatic way, shows to me that they wanted to make a point that the fall caused his death. They wanted to make a link between falling-dying.
I hope that makes sense... I tired to explain it as best I could :P

But wouldn't there be dead wildebeasts on the ground from the stampede itself? You don't exept every single wildebeast to survive that. So, Disney didn't put those in either =| I think Mufasa was mostly killed by the wildebeasts.

I think it was the wildebeest who killed him via trampling for one good reason. At the end of the movie Scar took quite a fall remember, and who was just fine with his lanky little frame.

Yeah. If Scar, all weak cause of no food and thin, could survive a fall down rocks, then so could a healthy and fit Mufasa. I think the wildebeasts killed him.

Mufasa was laying on his side when Simba found him but he fell straight down, so it's possible he was pushed by the horn/antler things of the wildebeest that caused him to fall in after saving Simba, and then he was probably kicked to the head or had his chest crushed in.
