Balto's ears twitched, 'Her friend?' it then hit him, 'Kodi!". Annabeth's companion meanwhile advanced on Dusty, who walked backwards untill she was blocked by the clinic's wall. Balto knew he had to help her, but he couldn't take on more than one wolf on his own. He suddenly got an idea. He made sure he was well out of sight, before taking a deep breath and then letting out a loud howl. Annabeth's companion looked around at her, "What was that?" before he could say anything else lights began to go on in the humans' houses as they recognised the wolf-howl.

Annabeth said, "Dang it!" She then bit Dusty on the neck and yelled, "We'll be back!" She tried to get out of there as fast as she could. Once they were safe she said to her companion, "Only a wolf could have done that racket. Are you thinking what I am thinking?"

Balto got worried as the wolf bit Dusty on the neck, but before he could do anything humans were already out of their houses. He realised that if Dusty needed any help she would get it from the humans and remained hidden on the roof. The humans talked for a few minutes and then carried Dusty into the clinic.

Annabeth's companion looked as if he was thinking, but then he said, "No."

Annabeth sighed, "We know there are no wolves in the town but there is a wolf-dog. That means he must have heard our conversation and decided to help that mutt. Which means my small-brained friend that he now knows of our presense."

Annabeth's companion said, "So what? We'll just kill the mutt."

Kodi who was in the clinic suddenly saw the doctor and another human carry Dusty inside.

Annabeth laughed, "I see you haven't thought much. Perhaps you need to use more than your brawn? The point is anytime we try to kill the mutt that wolf-dog will try to stop us, knowing that we are in the town."

Her companion then suggested something, "So one of us will go and the other will stand watch. We'll catch him next time."

Annabeth said, "The problem is you have to know what to watch for..." She then shook her head, "There has to be some way in that building..."

Her companion shook his head, "The stupid humans lock every door and window." he then asked, "Is that dog really what's impoortant at the moment? Isn't getting the wolf dog the bigger priority?"

Annabeth laughed, "Sure do you know where the wolf-dog is? I would like to hear your 'wise' advice about where we can find him." She then said, "Only that dog knows where he is."
