If you include the 'fanon' version of Taka/Scar before he turned evil, which is what I think about during that scene, then yes, Scar's death was very sad. Especially if you include such popular pictures as Invader Mel's illustration of Zira crying over a broken Scar's body and the image of a sad, forlorn Scar, abandoned by the kings, as drawn by Noweia.
If you discount everything outside of The Lion King movie itself, however, then no, it isn't very sad. It shows a villain getting what he deserves.
