Yeaa, even though I drew Kopa thinking of 'Tani not long ago, I don't really like them together.

I've seen a few Kopa/Nuka's too!

I like to think he either wasn't allowed a mate, because he was the youngest male in the pride, just didn't find a mate or found one much later on.

Anyhow, Kopa/Vitani is a pairing that's started to bug me. I didn't really care when the idea came around in the beginning, but now it seems to be widely accepted in the fandom that they are/were a couple (though Kati-kopa's comic is adorable and is possibly the only place where I accept Kopa and Vitani as a couple) and it's annoying me ever so slightly, because I'd never put them together. To me, it feels like people are pairing them up because they are two very popular characters who don't have mates. Solution = make them a couple! But that's just me, remember? :'D

When there are contests on TLKFAA now about either Kopa or Vitani, the site gets flooded with romantic pictures involving them. A few years ago it wasn't at all like that. Who came up with the idea I wonder?

Yes, in the books Kopa is the same age than Vitani in the film. But if you want Kopa to exist in the film universe...then, no, they're not the same age. It's simply impossible. Because Kovu was born before Simba returned to claim the throne, and Kovu was the last born, so Vitani was born back then too but no child of Simba and Nala's could've been born then. And for a nature to recover from utter distruction into such a green paradise as Pridelands was at Fluffy's birth/ceremony, it simply must be many seasons before Fluffy came into the world which would make a heck of an age difference between Fluffy and Vitani, physically and in inner development.

That is, if you'd really want to have your theories make sense instead of speeding up realistic nature extremely much jsut so you could have your pairing work the way you want. (By speeding up I mean, claiming that a lion cub popped up into the world within couple of months from Simba's return and still the nature had recovered from utter ashes and lack of water into a full-blown paradaise and also all the herds had miraculously made their way back from wherever far-away place they may have been.)

Please. Regarding realism doesn't have to equal limit to your imagination. On the contrary it could offer more chances to exciting theories and events because it makes things a bit more complicated and complex than sweet ignorance and dismission.

That's what bugs me about these theories: how some of them are so widely accepted. I don't care if some fan thinks Kopa/Vitani is cute and all but when they talk about it so much as if it was something official... no.
Like Nala being Vitani's mother and Zira killing Kopa...
I think a fan randomly came up with this and for some reason everyone just accepted it and that's it.
4 years ago or so these theories were not popular, or am I wrong? I just found out about Kopa last year...

Okay. I just got some sense into me and will rethink my theory. Now that you mention it, Kopa and Vitani aren't the same age. But still, I beleive Kopa is canon. Maybe him and Vitani as a couple is fanon but Kopa is definitely canon.

Whoa, Mufasa Almighty!! I'm browsing through the pages of this discussion and I see all these arguments about Kopa! You must remember, guys... this is MY Lion King, where you can have YOU'RE opinion! The Lion King is 100% fictional. Nothing really happened. You can think whatever you like about it! Whether or not Kopa existed, if Zira lives on, and if Scar was a mama's boy for Uru! The cub at the end of TLK was given the name Fluffy. And that's it. No gender, no personality, nothing. They decided what to do with it later. It could be Kopa, it could be Kiara, it could be some other cub! Personally, I'd like to believe it's Kopa because it was daytime when "Fluffy" was being held up and it wasn't daytime when Kiara was being held up. I also think so because Simba seems older in SP. Now SBS replied to my comment on Simba's age and said, "Wasn't it screamingly obvious that the animator's weren't the same as the first one?" Yes, SBS, I can see that, but his personality is also different. He seems to have the personality of a more mature lion. And I know the animator's changed his appearence and all that. I have people tell me they purposely did this to make him look older, and I've had people say they lacked budget. Whether they changed his appearence intentionally or not, he still looks older, and he acts like it too. You can believe what you like, but I'm just stating my opinion. It's fine if you don't think Kopa is canon. I probably support Kopa so much because I'm not too fond of Kiara You seem like a very intelligent guy, er, lion. Just very, very defensive of your opinion, lol.

BTW: Does anybody know if Safura is in the books or if she is purely fan-made?

I totally agree with Lavish, this arguement is stupid x3 It's a bit entertaining, but stupid. It's one of those things that'll never really fade though D: I've never heard of Safura o.o

I'd say it was mostly because of Kiara and the new plot. The sheltered child/forbidden romance theme wouldn't work as well if Simba had the same personality. Just think about Ariel in "The Little Mermaid II" and Tramp in "Lady and the Tramp II". Heck, John Smith got turned into a jerk in "Pocahontas II" just to justify the new romance. DTV Disney sequels are known for changing characters and events just to fit the new plot.
