Mbali listened with interest as Dakari spoke, while maintaining her grip on the slippery grade she was steadily climbing. Remembering that Dakari had no pride, and was therefore much less uprooted than she was, she began to imagine what it would be like for her to live that way. She would have to catch all her own food, be a rogue with no home, be responsible for her own defense, and never have anyone she can trust and love. Then, as she began to think about her pride again, Dakari asked if she'd ever climbed a tree before. "No... Only small logs as a cub." she replied, the thought of her family fading away to come back to her at another time.
