LOST (TV series)

SPOILER ALERT! THIS IS MAINLY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WATCHED THE SHOW THROUGH!

How did you end up watching it for the first time? Who's your favourite character and why? What's your favourite relationship and why? How did you interpret the ending? What's the most fascinating/interesting aspect or detail of the show to you?

For a long time I thought it was one of those reality TV shows that couldn't interest me any less than they do, so I didn't even bother to research it. Then one day my friend corrected my belief and introduced me to it by having me watch the first episode and two minutes into the pilot episode, I was hopelessly hooked. I bought the first four seasons for myself as quickly as I could in any way afford. Getting the fifth season took a bit longer which was frustrating.

My favourite character is either Desmond of Sawyer. I can't really ranks them for good but usually Desmond is my favourite. Sawyer is generally more interesting but something about Desmond just gets to me more genuinely.

I love Sawyer because of the dramatic childhood incident which caused him to hunt for the man for couple of decades while he actually became the man he was hunting down. The irony of that. Ah! And I find it extremely touching that even as an adult, all he wanted to do was to give the letter to him. And I love how he always came up with brilliant and funny nicknames to everyone, rarely using the same twice in a row. (Apart from 'Frackles' of Kate.) Which leads me to that I love how he loves Kate. And how he tries to be oh-so-tough-and-cool and in a way genuinely is, but in the deepest is very caring and able of co-operation. One of my favourite scenes is when he takes the bullet for a child that wasn't his. (And I hate it how Michael didn't appreciate it.)

I can't put my finger on why exactly I love Des. But it's essentially because of his and Penny's love and how utterly cute and true they and their love is--because I remember liking Des a lot from the very first moment but that the feeling grew significantly at the scene where he found Penny's letter and for what the letter said. Of course, also the background story for their love and how they ended up seperated for so long is very intiguing. And Des is just so sympathetic, caring and nice guy, I just can't help but love him. And for the last: he's a scott. I love scottish accent to bits.

My favourite relationship is Desmond&Penny. As said, I find it utterly cute and true-love stories always get to me because it's something not found/seen too often in this world. I don't think there's "the one" for everyone in this world, but it's awfully nice to see it being the case in fiction. There's something comforting and really sweet about their relationship--nice break from real life bs and the coldness of the world. Especially as they have a happy ending. And I love how she kept her phone number for so many years in faith that Des' might call when he promised though the way he'd promised it sounded absurd. My favourite scene is the one in the Flash Sideways (alternate reality) wherein they meet for the first time and shake hands, causing Des to faint because he was getting flashbacks/travelling between that reality and their true reality. And specifically the moment when Penny makes the remark "I must have had quite an affect on you" at the fainting for a hand-shake and they end up engaging a date at a cup of coffee. It's just too funny and cute. xD It ranks a bit higher in my favorites than the famous phone call during Des' time travel.

Second favourite relationship is Sawyer&Kate and I very much dislike it that thay in the end paired up Kate and Jack, and had Sawyer and Juliet... Sawyer/Juliet kinda grew on me but still... Sawyer/Kate FTW in that competition. I don't know why really, they just entertained me very much. I guess I feel that in some weird way they completed each other. While I don't see what Kate and Jack have to give for each other. o.O I don't really have a favourite Sawyer/Kate scene.

How I interpeet the end: The bomb didn't wipe away their past and no one died, because whatever happend, happened. The explotion just threw them back into the time after Jacob's death, but because this time the energy discharge that caused the plane to crash was affected by the bomb, it didn't just throw them back to the current time but also flashed sideways, creating an alternate reality to the lot. They started to remember their true reality and original life whenever something emotionally extremely charged happened similar to the original life's events (always related to love.)

Jack died making the island's light burn again which stopped the island from falling into the sea.
So Des, Hurley, Ben and of course all those who flew off the island in the airplane, lived. But just like those who had died before the island started to crumble, they too were stuck in the Flash Sideways until Jack was ready to accept his own life and death. Because Jack had become the protector of life, death and rebirth. When Jack finally accepted his life and death, those who had died were able to leave to the afterlife from the church, and those who still lived in the true reality, would cease to exist anywhere but in that true reality. I think the ending was semi-happy because for a little while the seperated lovers were reunited, but Claire and Charlie were seperated again as were Kate and Jack and Sawyer and Juliet.

The most fascinating aspect or detail of the show to me I can not decide. I love evry bit of all of it. But I guess the most interesting is the characters' pasts, personalities and relationships and how their fates bound together even in the Flash Sideways.

How did you end up watching it for the first time?
I have watched LOST from the very beginning. I LOVE it. It is my favourite show. I was originally captured by the preview that showed Charlie saying "Guys.... where are we?" because it.. well... made it interesting i guess.

Who's your favourite character and why?
Ben. His transformation from the leader of the others and the "bad guy" to the humbled character who is a burden to the other characters was amazing. Him killing Jacob was a real turning point for him because all of his life he had never seen Jacob and yet had been under his rule. He thought that killing hiim would make him stronger, but Locke new better.
Also Jack, just because he changed alot and was easy to cheer on. His death was one of the saddest moments in TV history for me. I loved how he died in the same place he woke up on the island, with Vincent by his side in the bamboo. And the last shot being his eye shutting- oh, my heart broke.

What's your favourite relationship and why?
Sun and Jin. They started off as an angry husband and a wife who was planning to leave him to the most loving couple who would do anything for each other, ultimately leading to their deaths. I was literally sobbing when they died. It was so beautiful and bittersweet. I even choke up thinking about it! Their strength and the way they formed a new love out of a ruined marriage was so inspirational, it is something that i look up to. The scene where you think Jin is going to the birth of his daughter but he's actually going to his boss's wifes birth was a real shock. It was so well done. And Sun's scream when the ship exploded when Jin was on it gave me goosebumps. I'm a real sucker for romance.

How did you interpret the ending? I interperated the ending as..............................Yeh, I got nothing.
Well, it kinda made sense if you squinted your eyes and tilted your head (lol) but there was alot of loose ties that they could have explained. But then again, noone would be satisfied. I think that they did indeed crash on an island, alive, and then eventually died, like Jack did in the final scene. But the flash sideways was pergatory. Christian Shepard said to Jack "when is now?" and that makes me think that all the characters dies at different times but were all together because time doesn't exist. In pergatory they had all thought of a perfect life, but it wasn't quite right. Something was missing. And when they all started remembering their lives, they were able to move on.

What's the most fascinating/interesting aspect or detail of the show to you?
The music. IT WAS AMAZING. It really made the show. I also liked all the connections that were only realised at the end. It must've taken alot to plan it all!
