Dakari was quite stunned when Mbali walked back to him and nuzzled him, mostly confused by what she had said. He never considered himself to be strong, for if he had been strong, he would still be with his family. By the time he wanted to return Mbali's gesture and nuzzle her back, she already pulled away. "Strong or not, I promise I'll help you however I can." his reassurance seemed to have some sort of a positive affect so far. He then began walking again with Mbali by his side. If there were no fish in the river, then there had to be some sort of food around the place.

"Thank you, Dakari, I'll try to do the same." Mbali replied, continuing to walk. She was finally beginning to get used to the cold snow against her pads.

Just then she smelt something. It smelled mildly familiar - almost as if she'd been near it once before. As she neared it, continuing to walk in the direction she and Dakari had been for the past few minutes, it only grew stronger. It smelled much like carrion. "Dakari do you smell that?" she said, getting excited and beginning to run toward the scent.

Dakari was also walking by Mbali's side when the scent reached him. For a moment back there, he was as excited as Mbali was, but he then remembred the rather wide tunnel they came across. The better option was that the carrion they were smelling was killed by whatever dug the tunnel, whcih Mbali assumed to be a pretty large animal. But if what they were smelling was the animal at hand, then it only meant that something even bigger had killed it.

Before the lioness had gotten too far away from him, Dakari sprinted, "Wait!" eventually he caught up with her and blocked her path, nearly slipping while doing so but remaining on his feet. "This could be dangerous." he didn't want anything bad to happen to her, not if he had even a small hunch that something might happen. "Let's take it easy, alright?"

Mbali froze as Dakari spoke, nearly falling over as he caught up to her. "You're right... this is too easy..." she said. "I just hope it's not too late to back out. If this is a tra-" she was saying, just as she turned around to leave but noticed that one paw was caught in the loop of a tied vine. She panicked, pulling with all the strength she could as her other three paws slipped on the snow. The vine only being pulled tighter around Mbali's wrist, she whimpered slightly in pain as she squirmed to escape her predicament. "Go on and save yourself! I don't want you to get stuck here too!" she exclaimed, though no living creature was in sight. The carrion, nearly all eaten up, laid nearby.

Dakari was also about to leave and head back, but he got startled and jumped when Mbali suddenly began screaming. He readied himself for whatever was attacking the female, only to find that Mbali's leg was just tangled with a vine. Normally he would laugh at something like this, but he just didn't found the case funny when it came to her.

Realising he should probably help her before she got a heart attack, Dakari slowly walked to her back and then bit the vine off. He then walked back to her side and offered her his paw along with a reassuring smille. He however didn't say anything and decided that not teasing her about what had just happened was more what he was like. "I think I found some food." he said, gesturing at the carrion, his paw still held out.

Mbali whipped her paw away from the vine and looked with disdain at the snapped string-like vegetation lying on the ground in a circle of snow disturbed by her paw. "Th-that thing..." she said, before turning around and seeing that Dakari was holding his paw out to her. She wasn't sure why he was holding it out, or what he expected her to do with it, but she put her paw in it as she couldn't think of anything else to do. "Sorry for freaking out... I got caught in one of those things shortly before being taken here." she said, ready to snarl and attack the vine if it were to move.

She looked over toward the carrion as Dakari gestured, still keeping her paw in his. "Oh... so you have." she said with interest.

Dakari couldn't help but smile as Mbali took his paw. He could understand why did she panic, and knew that he probably would have reacted the same if he hadn't known that his 'attacker' was only a vine. He then looked at the carrion, "It looks kind of mauled up... I wonder what did this..." he then noticed that Mbali's paw was still in his, though she was still on the ground, "Uh..." he said, feeling kind of akward, before gently pulling her to her feet.

Mbali looked around slowly as she got back to her feet, taking her paw back from Dakari and putting it back on the ground. "Thanks again." she said, before quickly trotting to the carrion. She didn't know what it was, and if she hadn't been so hungry, probably would have stopped to find out instead of leaving Darari in the dust, so to speak. "Come on, before someone else comes along!" she called to the lion, beginning to bite into the meat. It tasted weird to her, but she thought that was probably because it was some different animal than what she was used to eating. Nevertheless, it was food, and that was all that mattered to her while she was quickly eating her fill.

Dakari then remembered exactly how hungry he was, and also ran towards the meat. He, like her, found it's taste good, yet somehow odd. "I wonder what kind of animal is that?" he asked after swallowing what he had, before taking another bite. There was still the problem of finding food the next day, and also the problem of what sort of predator had killed the carrion they were eating.

Mbali stopped eating about ten minutes after starting, assuming that Dakari would take longer since he was bigger and more powerful than she was. At last the two would no longer be hungry - for the time being.

"I have no idea... it looks weird. I can't tell, but I think we might have a better idea if we saw one that wasn't dead." she said, waiting for the lion to eat as much as he felt he needed to. Meanwhile she looked around, wondering what they would do now that they'd fallen so far down.
