Wow, that was fast. 0_o. Well here's the plot! Enjoy! ^_^

Marissa lead a normal life. Other than the fact that she was born with wings and super strength. She kept a normal life to the age of five. That's when things went terribly wrong. With no family, she is taken to a place called the Exploratory, where she is studied upon, along with another five year old named Mat. He is just like Marissa. As the years pass, more kids come at the age of five with wings and super strength, now known as Entay-Angels, until finally, enough was enough. They escaped, but not without evil creations called Shades after them. On the run with no place to go, can this little group stop the Exploratory from stealing more innocent kids? Will they be able to stand up to the shades? And will they ever find their parents again? Only time will tell as they venture to the far corners of the earth to search for the one place they belong.

Alright, onto the actual book! Inspired by the book series Maximum Ride! Hope y'all enjoy! :)

One
Spoiler: show
You might call this a diary. I don't, but I wouldn't blame you if you do. But let me make one thing perfectly clear before I start: This is NOT a diary. It's a record of my life in case... well in case whatever. I hope you all understand that much.

So, my name is Marissa. Everyone calls me Mar, though. My family I mean. They're not my true blood family, but they're the closest thing to a family that I got right now. There are seven in our group. There's me, Marissa. I'm 15 years old, almost 16. Then there's Mat. He's also 15, and his birthday is exactly one month after mine. And I mean exactly, the 21st. If I had to explain Mat in a few words, I would say that he's been my best friend since I was five. He'll always be my very best friend. We've never left each others side. He's almost like my real blood brother, though he's way to quiet. He's very realistic and down to earth, caring and smart and hero material. Not like me... not even close. Annie's next, she's 12. She's a little devil, lemme tell ya. She pulls practical jokes and pranks on us all the time. It gets very annoying. She gets serious and determined when she needs to, though. Really, a lot of the time, she's the one who keeps the fun in our lives. Then there's Amanda and she's 9. She is Annie's very best friend, they play together almost all day. Amanda is a sweetheart. She can make anyone smile. And who could forget the twins, Danny and Johnny? They're both 7 years old. Johnny is small and sweet. Very quiet ad practical, like Mat. I think Mat's his role-model, actually. And his twin, Danny, is a little spitfire. Way to much energy in that kid. And boy, does he have and apatite! He's never, ever been full of food. The only similarity between the two are their eyes, their hair and their size. Other than that they couldn't be more different.

So ya, that's us, just a group of kids with no home, trying to survive. That's the trick ain't it? To survive. Thing is, we look like a bunch of normal kids, but we are far from normal.

Oh, I forgot to talk about me, didn't I? Well, you know my age and name. Marissa, 15 years. I'm the “leader” of this little gang. It's hard to be the leader, but for them it's worth it. I'm tall and skinny with dirty blond hair and hazel eyes. 1) Don't even THINK of making blond jokes in front of me, and 2) my eyes change color with what I wear and where I am in case you were wondering.

So, now you all know who we all are. Are lives are far from normal. Take right now, for instance. I'm running for my life from Shades. Shades are mutant creatures that are sent out for two things and two things only: Seek and Destroy. They're like Vampires, with fangs. And have big, long claws and teeth.

You might be asking yourself: How is she writing and running? Well, I'm not. The big secrets out. Nah, just kidding, I just write like I was in the moment so I can recall it accurately. So where was I? Oh yes, running for my friggen' life! (Friggen' is another word for the F word.)

“Run! Come on, your better than this, RUN!” I yelled breathlessly, sweat dripping from my forehead. “Any day now guys.” I muttered under my breath, wiping the sweat from my forehead. You're probably wondering why I'm being chased by mutant freaks. It's because I have a very special ability. We all do. You won't guess what it is right off the bat, though.

Just then, Mat flew up beside me, his black wings striking against the green forest. He nodded his head towards something ahead of me. I smiled and ran faster. Literally two seconds later, a cliff emerged out of nowhere, and I jumped.

Ya, I know, you think I'm crazy. But I forgot to mention one thing. Mat's not the only one with wings. I unfurled MY brown wings in a split second. All 15 feet of them. I felt a jolt of sharp pain as the wind hit one of my wings, making me wince. 'Stupid injury.' I though to myself, beating my wings powerfully, rising high into the sky. I had sprained my wing in a fight the day before and couldn't last in the air for to long. The Shades skidded to a stop at the cliffs edge, screaming and throwing rocks at us, though we were well out of reach. By “we” I mean our group, who were all watching the shades, the little ones laughing at them hysterically. Guess they forgot to bring a gun. Now, it was trap time.

“Danny, now!” I screamed. Danny nodded and pulled out a ball of rubber bands. Why rubber bands you ask. Did you ever think of what's inside them? He took off one rubber band and threw it right on the head of one of the Shades. “3, 2, 1, fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” All the kids shouted at once. Then, it exploded, spreading green gas everywhere. We all covered our noses. The Shades ran, coughing and choking on the gas.

“Whew!” I exclaimed, trying to blow the gas away from my nose.

“Ha ha! Stink bombs, gotta love them!” Annie laughed, turning somersaults in the air. “C'mon, lets go before we start to stink.” She said, heading back for camp. We all followed. I shot Mat an amused look. He shot one back at me. We can almost always understand each other at a glance.

I landed with a sigh of relief at our camp spot, far away from where I was being chased by the Shades. It's exhausting, running for your life. I hope none of you have to do it one day. I closed one wing, the non-sprained one, gently behind my back, letting my other wing fall limp and relax. Mat quickly got a fire going. I layed back on a log, letting the fire warm me. The sun was setting, giving the clouds a pink color. I took my wing in one hand and rubbed it with the other, trying to get the muscles to relax more.

“Still hurting?” Mat asked, who had been watching me the whole time. I nodded.

“Sure you didn't break it?” Amanda asked, pulling a marshmallow from her bag and putting it on a marshmallow stick, putting it over the fire.

“No I did not break it.” I said, rolling my eyes. “If I had broken it I wouldn't be able to fly at all. Hand me a marshmallow please.” Annie threw one over to me, and I put it on a stick and stuck it into the ground over the fire.

“Here.” Mat handed me some pain medication. “Take that if it gets worse.” I took it and shoved it in my pocket.

“Thanks Mat.” I said. Amanda threw him a marshmallow. He ate it without putting it over the fire. Personally, I always though he was crazy when he doesn't toast it. Suddenly, Johnny and Danny were arguing.

“Hey, give that back!” Johnny shouted at his brother, reaching for a marshmallow in Danny's hand. He extended it out of reach, holding Johnny back with his body and other arm. “That's mine!”

“No it's not, it's mine!” Danny shouted back. I rolled my eyes at Mat. He gave me a look that said “better go break it up before our ears are ruined.” I stood up.

“Whoa whoa! Enough already!” I pushed them both to opposite ends of the log they were sitting on. “Amanda.” She nodded and threw me another marshmallow. I handed it to Johnny. “Here, now you each have one. We good?” Both the boys nodded and started happily eating their marshmallows. I went back to my spot next to Mat, pulling my marshmallow from the fire. It was brown and gooey now, and I ate it in one bite, savoring the taste.

“What're we doing tomorrow?” Annie asked me suddenly. Surely she knew the answer by now.

“What we usually do. Run and search for our parents.” I said simply, leaning back against the log, looking up at the stars.

“Can't we take a break from all this running?” She whined. “It's so exhausting and so last week!” She exclaimed, falling on her back next to me, also looking at the stars.

“I know, but we can't stop until the Shades stop coming after us, or at least ease up a bit.” I closed my eyes.

“We're near the ocean, can't we go to the beach?” She asked me, sitting up to look at my face. I yawned.

“Not at the moment no.” I murmured, starting to fall asleep. “Maybe someday, kay?” I think she answered, but by the time she finished her sentence, I was fast asleep.
