Exactly. During Aladdin's production, A company owned by Disney at the time got the rights to "The Princess and the Cobbler" (kicking out the director who was planning the movie for 30 years and was supposed to release it before Aladdin).
The two stories are similar (the story takes place in an oriental city from the tales of thousand and one night. It's about a poor cobbler who falls for the princess. She wants to be free and is tired of her life and falls for the cobbler. But the vizier wants to marry the princess in order to succeed her father)

The Princess and the Cobbler was completly changed and released in 1993. It was given a limited release and was called the "Aladdin rip-off". In 2009, the movie was finally restored and made the way the original director wanted.
