Suggestion for the Characters board

A problem arises when people do try to categorize characters further than canon and fanon. People have various opinions on whether or not Kopa really existed or not. If we were to classify Kopa as a non-canon character, some people would have problems with that. I humbly propose we take no stance on the matter, and let people figure it out on their own :3

A cautious and reasonable position =) I agree. The line between what's cannon and what isn't can be drawn at too many points, and someone's going to have a problem with it no matter where it's done lol.

I personally think that since The Lion King universe wouldn't exist at all without the first film and its creators visions on it, the original movie and the commentary track of it should be the most essential and significant canon, and promoted, when dealing with what's official about the characters and story. It wouldn't even robb anyone off the possibility of indepth book-universe-combining discussion. It would just make clear what the most impottant creatotors of this fandom actually meant and wanted for it.

Because the line between the "tier 1 and 2" canon and the rest of the canon and the fanon hasn't been made clear enough, it has lead into gazillion people blindly believing and falsely spreading the information that the cub in the end is officially Kopa, and that has lead to the same situation with the total, utter fanon theory about "Zira killed Kopa". Those popular fanon theories would've always been possible to make up even if the tuth about the official canon would've been made clear. The difference it would've made is that no one would have false hopes about them making a movie about Kopa being killed by Zira or Kopa even at all, a lot less people would be confused and less people would be frustrated with lies and confusion. As in no creativity limitations, but a whole lot less confusion, disappointments and lies because the purest canon in all its aspects (as in also its creators visions) would be made absolutely clear.

There actually is a FAQ thread here but it gives out the false information and can not be edited but by the person who started it. And we can't really expect people to bother reading through the entire, lengthy thread. >__<

Personally, I agree with you, SuperBabySimba. Kopa, or any other comic book character for that matter, is definately not a canon character, considering {As was posted by you} that Kopa was designed by a comic book author, not Disney. However, I do not think that any person who hasn't already seen The Lion King would join here. For that case, they would probably know about the comics and their characters. Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense. A lot of people who join already know and are a fan of the books.

On this subject, even though I agree with you, SuperBabySimba, I have to side with Moka. His choice seems fair and reasonable. Others may be offended and another fight may break out if Moka made this change, although I would like to see it happen. I believe it's best that we listen to Moka on this one. (:

Seriously, offended about an official fact being promoted in a form of applying it to the organizing of a board? I mean, we are not talking about just an opinion based change here, but based on an official fact that has everything to do with the entire fandom. And even though it wouldn't even limit any reasonable discussion possibilities but just hopefully eliminate just the trivial, confused topics? As in, I don't see this suggestion anything like the signature rule. This wouldn't limit anything, this would just make the orginizing and facts clearer.

Are you absolutely sure a fight would break? If it was explained that it doesn't mean anyone must give up their personal views while discussing? I mean, what would this change be away from anyone?

If the forum can go off like a bomb because of sig size reduction, I would say an overhaul of an entire section of the board based on whether or not certain characters are 'official' or not would definitely do the trick. =P

Well, how about not reacting to the explotion? Let those who want, complain by themselves until they realize the change is a benefit to the forum and the fandom in several ways while the change is absolutely nothing away from the users of this forum: as in that there is nothing to complain and take an offense of. And then they'll quit and let their lives go on? Hm?

Another point I'd wish to make: the siggy size outbreak was just the first reaction by a minority of the active users on this forum. And the first impression can be horrible in anything where disagreements exist which is pretty much everything in life. The first reaction wasn't even given the chance to calm down. As in, chances are some displeased members might have come to their senses after a second thought or after giving a chance to the new size limit.
