Suggestion for the Characters board

Hi! Welcome to the Feedback forum.
Before reading anything or asking anything; please check out the FAQs. Your question might be in there. However if you want a better understanding after reading the FAQs, like if it didn't explain it good enough, then by all means ask your question.

Please read the following before posting in this forum...

In this forum you will see an Announcement, and several "sticky" topics. The announcement is the Universal Board Rules. If you are new, read this before doing anything else! The sticky topics will stay above and separated from normal user-made topics in the forum. This is because they outline important information about the board. If you see a sticky topic concerning your issue, please reply with your question or concern in the correct topic. Moderators will see your reply within these topics. Before asking your question, be sure to read the topic and its first page especially. It contains information about your issue that is valuable and may even answer your questions. If the topic does not answer your question, ask your question within the topic, not the forum. If no sticky topic concerns your issue, then you are welcome to ask your own questions by creating a new topic within the forum.

Thank you for keeping the Board Help forum organized!
...I have free will and can decide for myself if something is cannon or not. I do not need a sub section of the forum to tell me that.
So very meny have the free same free will but not the interest or ability to draw that line, which results in tons of confusion and lies. I don't see how a sub-board would hurt anything, I only see benefits of it to everyone.
I never said it would hurt, I said it is not really necessary :). I do actually kind of agree with the idea, in that it can not do any harm so why not? But I just do not think it is worth the staff's efforts for something that has little benefit.

Look at it this way: I am a new fan of TLK, I just watched 1-3 and so I joined a forum and see people discussing a character (say Kopa for this instance). Now I know that Kopa was not in the three films, and is therefore not a part of the main story... Why do I need a sub forum just to tell me something I already know?

The key word in the Six New Adventures title, is New. As in they are new stories, based on the actual story and therefore non cannon. It is only as complicated as you make it.
not cannon.
Clearly we were discussing the idea of shooting this thread out of a cannon, get with the program.

Right, I get it. Of course the sub-board isn't as necessary as some other things might be, but in the end I'm sure it would spare the staff from more work in the future because remarkably many don't know what you do because they think too complicatedly and aren't as considered and critical on the matters as you are. And Mike put it well; the Characters board does need some organizing. And my suggestion is to do it this way.

Heh. Thanks, guys. :) Even if Moka for some reason chooses not to go for this, it's good to know this had at least some support.

I don't know how complicated it is on this forum base to create a sub-board and move those topics into it, but on every base (several phpBB bases and Proboards) I've ever been an admin on, it isn't too troublesome and time-taking, as in that a nice, organized board that also offers clarification for the fandom, might be worth that little effort. But as said, I don't know this forum base.

Perhaps instead of making an entirely new forum we could put up a tagging system on character threads.

Like the title of Simba's thread would be "Simba [Movie Character]" and the title of Tojo's thread would be "Tojo [Comic Character]." Or, if we wanted to be more specific: "Simba [Character from The Lion King Movie]" and "Kiara [Character from Simba's Pride Movie]" and "Tojo [Character from The Orphaned Birds Comic]."

I dunno...just a thought. I don't think we have enough character threads to justify another forum (and I don't think there are many more character threads to make). Plus, most of the character threads say where the character originated from in the very first post.

And yes, it is canon, not cannon. :P

But an essential part of my suggestion was also that something about the new organizing style would make clear not only who the book universe characters are out of the lot but also that they never existed in the movie universe.

^And that aspect of the organizing I suggested in order to minimize the amount of and hopefully eventually eliminate the confusing and trivial topics questioning or discussing 'why-this-and-that-from-the-books-isn't-in-the-film' or 'did-they-ever-explain-why-this-and-that-from the books' - because with a clear explanation (like in the sub-board's description) everyone would be clear about it right there and then when accessing the Characters board. Also, such clarification would give room for better discussion when they wouldn't every now and then turn into confusing speculations and debates on where the characters stand in the officiality. The tagging system wouldn't do that.
I don't think we have enough character threads to justify another forum (and I don't think there are many more character threads to make).
The board has some 40 topics and about half of them are book/comic universe characters if not even more. Each board would have just about one page of topics. Isn't the universe&officiality-clarifying organizing enough for a "justification"? And people wouldn't have to look so much for a specific character topic when they'd fit on one page.
Plus, most of the character threads say where the character originated from in the very first post.
But not all, and none of them says that the character in question never existed in the movies. If that clarification isn't made, you might as well not do anything to the board. Because nothing would change; the tagging would just say what the original post says and the remarkable number of people would keep on thinking they are officially one big connected universe and all the confusion and trivial topics would continue and the organizing would've been for nothing.

On a side note, I kinda like the "why is this and the other thing happening from the movies" threads. They're discussion, and they stay new for a while :P It's fun for newer members even it it's repetitive for the olders lol.

And misleading & confusing for those who are looking for factual information and this forum too has proven that people do look for it from fandom discussion forums. I'm just trying to think rationally for the benefit of as many fans as possible. ;)

The wiki is for factual information. The forum is for discussing anything relating to The Lion King -- factual or otherwise.

The description of the characters forum is "Discuss the canon characters from the films, books and comics." This leads me to think that members don't even pay attention to the characters forum before they post their theories or questions. I personally don't think this solution will solve the problem you're describing.
