Best poem I've ever written. If you read it, please tell me what you think.
Two souls, one goal
I thought that life had given me grace,
Blessed me with love in a warm embrace.
My heart had all I could ever desire,
Items which others could only aspire.
I had everything I could ever want,
But now I fear that my heart is in haunt.
For something strange has allured my eye,
Something, I see now, I was lucky to spy.
A treasure so vast, the whole, I couldn’t see,
With a light so bright, it nearly blinded me.
It sounded of harmonious, blissful pleasure,
It was a wondrous sight, of a wondrous treasure.
I knew this sight was too good to be true,
So I turned away and called it nothing new.
Only when I turned back around did I find,
One who has become a close friend of mine.
Though his face remained a mystery,
I found beauty in his dark history.
I was fearful at first that his past would show,
A painful truth that my heart didn’t know.
Yet something about his words of wise,
Told my heart that it knew what my mind had disguised.
He told me of the troubles he had faced before,
And I saw that what I had, he had more.
The treasure I had so desperately sought,
Is why my friend had battled and fought.
Neither of us had truly achieved,
What others only have by being deceived.
We struggle together on a winding road,
Seeing others as neither friends nor foes.
But rather, accomplices to help us reach our goals,
For we are all the same, binded hearts and souls.
I’ve given up my past hopes it seems,
For something far greater calls my soul.
Through distance, race, gender and dreams,
We remain to this day two souls, one goal.
