Well the book says one of his plans to embarrass Mufasa went wrong and a buffalo gave him the scar but if a buffalo did that then it's not very emotionally changing and stuff.
I like to think Ahadi gave him the scar, then it would make much more sense why he hates his brother (or just his whole family) and call himself Scar.

And I think if a buffalo would have done that it had to be a bigger Scar (Buffalo's are pretty big, right? xD).

I have no idea..
I'm only pretty sure it wouldn't be Mufasa who would have done that.
