Regardless, I agree with zorayda: they humanized the lions in the second movie moreso than in the first movie. I mean, I don't think they would've ever tried something like this in the first movie.

Haha, no they wouldn't have. I watched the extras for the first movie, and they'd spent a lot of time watching the way the lions moved and walked. I also notice that, in the second movie, the way the lions run and walk is a little more sloppy anatomy-wise. Remeber the time they spent, watching a lion run just to animate Simba running across the desert? In the second one, the pattern is off somehow, like they sort of made it up as they went along.

Yeah, the animation team even got to take a trip to Africa.

@simba86: Yeah. As far as I know, none of the original animators returned to Simba's Pride. But, please correct me if I'm wrong :]

From what I remember from the Lion King 2 Special Features, the animators struggled to keep the animation as similar to the first as possible. And for me, they did a quite excellent job; especially in creating different characters but with the same design. It could have been the animators studied from the first movie, not necessarily the movement or had a trip to Africa.

Maybe the animators wanted to show more emotion that humans could relate to by giving them human attributes? :/

Still, The Lion King is pretty unique in how the animals weren't portrayed as animal/human hybrids like Mickey Mouse. The animators in both movies had a tough time making their characters show human emotions or gestures, and I think the animation team in the first movie did a good job pioneering that effort. The animation team in the second movie did a pretty good job, too.

It was probably a judgement call based on the circumstances the lions were in at the time they were kissing at those times. If one type seems more appropriate than the other, and it would have more of a desirable effect on the audience, that's what they'll use.

I think the 'lion way' was better. xD

But I didn't really noticed it at first.
