If you ask me, the whole Upendi scene is just.. wrong. x_x

But like someone else mentioned, the passion fruit thing is a metaphor for love. Kiara happily accepts the fruit (embracing love) but Kovu refuses to eat the fruit. I think this shows that he feels insecure and confused about his feelings for Kiara.

Agreed with Lady and PK.

However, lions actually do eat fruit when its all they can find. Eggs, forage, etc; when prey is running low, to the point that they are starving. Desperation can make a lion do a lot of things to survive.
