must of been an animation flaw
because the bit before it shows them climbing the bit aroung to the front. not the top. i really do wonder how they got up there

Not really, it shows them leaving the den and going up the side. It might go around in a spiral to the back. And we don't know what the back of pride rock looks like, so Scar's fall might not have been so bad.

In my eyes, the path Simba chases Scar up in the fight scene is the same path Mufasa and Simba go up. And when Scar looks down, I think he is looking down onto the platform of pride rock. Then, Scar and Simba might and Scar is thrown off the back of the top, tumbing (as we see) down to the bottom, where he is met by the hyenas.
