Deep in the heart of Africa sleeps Simba and his pride. Kovu, the deceptive rogue has just been accepted into Simba's pride. But after a night spent with Kiara, Kovu has decided not to go through with Zira's plot. The den of lions sleeps soundly. But as the night lingers on, the Pride Landers are not alone. Zira and Shari watched closely for a particular lioness to exit her home. One whose life holds the key to the Pride Lands. This is Zira's second plan. Plan B: Forceful Domination.

The sun begins to rise over Pride Rock. The birds began to fly overhead, while the clouds lazily drifted by. There was a slight breeze, but other than that, there was complete silence. All night long have the two lions waited, and not a single sign of their target. Tired, hungry and thirsty, Zira and Shari lay motionless on the soft grass. waiting for any lion to step out of the sanctity of Pride Rock.

Maswali was loosely perched on a nearby rock. He felt, as a hasty new addition to this ramshackle pride, like hired muscle, and thus was not inclined to keep an extra eye out or do anything extra unless he was told. After all, he has never met any of the pridelanders, only seen them from a distance. Even so, his dark fur marks him as a stranger and a trespasser. He hums a tune softly, looking about boredly. Should the nearby lionesses glance over to him, they receive what can be perceived as either a solemn or mocking nod.

Despite this, Maswali is ready for anything he might need to do. Hie is limbered up and ready to run, or, better yet, sneak into the pridelanders' sanctum. And fight? Well, Maswali hoped it wouldn't have to come to that. His claws shot out. He would kill them all. He crept over to Zira and Shari. "No one's coming. Is there a plan C?" he asks sarcastically, knowing that Zira cannot afford to kill him. (Or so he hopes.) He lies down next to them and starts to mentally prepare himself for what might happen any moment.

Meanwhile, in the outlands, Vitani felt miffed as she paced in the mouth of their termite mound. [s]She[/i] wanted to be a part of Plan B, but after loyally following her mother all her life all her mother had told her to do was to wait here, and keep the other outlanders in order until they got their next orders. As she sat down on te bare, dry earth, turning her gaze upwards to the newly-risen sun, her thoughts wandered back to her brother. Why did you have to betray us Kovu?, she pondered, internally. As much as they fought when they were cubs, she still cared for her brother despite rarely showing it. Maybe there was something in-

No. She couldn't think that, and she scowled as those thoughts were harshly erased from existance. He had betrayed all of them, including her, his own sister. She wouldn't do that; if mother said that she was to stay here and wait, then she would stay here and wait. That was what loyalty meant. This was no time to feel snubbed because of Shari, even if he was taking a place that arguably should be hers.

As the day continued, Zira, Shari and Maswali meticulously waited near Pride Rock. A herd of zebras past close by. Shari lifted his eyes for a moment and shifted his attention to a sickly zebra. It was limping and could easily be taken down. But as hungry as Shari was, his persistence was greater. The herd of zebras soon left, and so went the temptation of hunger. Zira shifted her feet and crept a few steps closer to Pride Rock. She was soon followed by Shari and Maswali. The minutes seemed to turn into hours as the tiring task of revenge unfolded.

High noon, and still no sign of Kiara. Impatience began to take it's toll on the three. Zira turned to Maswali and said They must have seen you while you were on that rock. They could be preparing for an attack right now! This is all your- Shari gently nudged Zira, interrupting her soft rant. She turned quickly, showing her teeth. Shari pointed at the tip of Pride Rock where Zira's scowl turned into an evil smile. For there on the symbolic stone, stood Kovu. Alone and unaware of the three lions. From what they could tell, Kovu was the first and only one up. Shari shifted his feet into a pouncing position, ready to tread even burning coal to kill his 'brother'. But Zira stopped him before he took off. They stared fiercely into each other's eyes, almost as if having a conversation with their eyes. Until Shari, reluctantly, sat back down with a look of disappointment.

Tivana yawned fiercly. She opened her soft green eyes and looked at the mouth of the cave. The sun was high. Must be noon She thought, licking her jaws and she stretched the best she could. She noticed that Kovu wasn't with Kiara. He must have been outside. She sighed, then looked down at her half brother, Tuva.

Tuva slept peacefully beside her. He snored ever so softly, his light brown chest rising and falling in rythm. She chuckled at him, then nudged him with her nose.

"Come on Tuva. Time to wake up." She said. He wouldn't budge. Tivana laughed, then pulled herself up, watching as he flopped down and hit his eyes, his brown eyes suddenly opening. He groaned, then got up and stretched.

"Why do you always wake me up that way?" He groaned, licking his paw and messing with the tuft of black fur on his head. Tivana laughed, then pushed him.

"Because it's fun." Was the only answer she gave. She stretched her back legs, then walked out of the cave. Tuva followed. She saw Kovu standing there on the edge of the rock. THey were all right, she did look like him a lot. But she had been a pridelander for a long time. She sighed, then walked over, sitting down and curling her tail around her feet.

Kovu looked down sullenly at the expanse of the Pridelands spreading out before him. His internal battle was coming to a climax as the love he felt battled the long emplaced feelings of hatred towards Simba. "Ok, I have to tell her today..." Kovu said as he paced back and forth on the edge of Priderock, "but where to start?" That truly was the question wasn't it? How could he possibly tell Kiara that he had intended to kill Simba? "She'll never believe me...but I have to try." At this time love had overcome hatred, but the war wasn't over.... After pacing for a time, Kovu left his vantage point completely unaware that he had been observed by not only the Pridelanders, but his much despised rival..... He had not thought of Shari in a long, long time and didn't want to now....

Shari stood up all of the sudden, and hastily whispered "He's getting away!, with claws drawn, Shari rushed towards Pride Rock. His hatred took over his mind. He had been waiting for this day for too long. As he approached Pride Rock, Zira bolted in front of him and forced him back a few paces. "Are you out of your mind? Zira quietly questioned, eyes burning. Zira quickly forced Shari back into the tall grass to hide.

Shari watched as his brother disappeared from view. He growled menacingly as his attention shifted from Kovu to Zira. "You'll get your chance at Kovu, but not yet!" Zira said, her scowl fading into a smile. "But right now, our top priority is Simba's daughter."

Shari sheathed his claws and hid his teeth. He looked back up at Pride Rock and imagined himself on top. roaring to all the helpless animals of his kingdom. The landscape changed in his mind to a desolate wasteland. The trees wilted and the river dried. In Shari's mind, this fantasy was a dream come true. He looked back at his mother, snapping out of his day dream. He nodded but once to show his understanding. Shari and Zira headed back to Maswali where they continued to watch patiently... for now.

Kiara's eyes fluttered open as the calming rays of sunlight dashed throughout the den. Making sure her father was still asleep, she gazed about trying to find Kovu. Surprised he wasn't inside the den like he was the night before, she slowly pattered towards the entrance; but an instinct stopped her. She couldn't put her paw on it, but something didn't seem very right.

It can't be anything, she thought to herself. It's probably just Kovu going out for a stroll.

Seeing Kovu at the edge of Pride Rock, she was slightly stunned he was there, but shook off her amazement and forced a smile.

"Hello, Kovu." She grinned cheerfully at him. "My, you get up bright and early, don't you?"

She nudged his flank almost lovingly and licked his troubled face; she didn't know, however, Zira's plot or why Kovu was troubled. Kiara didn't know Kovu was troubled to begin with, but she remained her usual self the whole while.

The time was nigh. Zira's evil heart soared. Kiara had left her sanctuary. Oh how long she had dreamed of this day. The day she would finally have her revenge. Countless years spent in the Outlands had only fueled her anger. Her desire to rid the world of all Pride Landers. Her desire that she had previously entrusted in Kovu, was now passed on to Shari.

Without a word, Zira and Shari exchanged glances and the prowl had begun. "Maswali, head back to the Outlands and tell Vitani to rally the lionesses." Zira said, as the two lions continued to Pride Rock. Closer and closer they came. Now Kiara and Kovu were in view. It was simple. All they had to do was get to Kiara, and Kovu and Simba would be powerless. Nothing could go wrong. The plan was foolproof...

But then, out from the den came two more lions: Tivana and Tuva. Zira and Shari stopped suddenly. While they could have easily snuck past Kovu and pinned Kiara, the outsiders were now outnumbered. "We missed our chance," Zira said calmly, though obviously angered. "We'll head back to the Outlands and-" Shari abruptly interrupted, "No. You rally the lionesses and take them to the charred hills where the wildfire was." Shari couldn't explain it, but he had a feeling that that was where they would move the plan forward. Perhaps it was the ghost of Scar? Maybe, but Shari didn't care. All he knew was that either way, this land was his, and nobody could take it from him. "I will stay here. Once Kiara is alone," Shari drew his razor sharp claws and looked at them with a despicable smile. "I'll make sure Simba sees it our way."

Zira reluctantly couldn't argue with his plan, and ran off to the Outlands. While Shari, still unseen, snuck under Pride Rock and hid in the shadows, softly muttering "Very soon Kovu... very soon."

After haring this brief exchange as he silently finessed himself through the grass, Maswali sneaked a good hundred yards from Pride Rock before he began to run full speed. Indeed, running was easy for him, the land was soft, like the Pridelanders, he mused.

Shortly, he had crossed the river, shook himself off, and sprinted the final distance. Slightly out of breath, and greeting the sentries at the edge of the Outlanders' congregation with a quick nod, he quickly found his way to Vitani.

"Zira says its time." Maswali said with a grin. "Gather the lionesses and take them to the hills where you set the fires." Despite himself, he was getting anxious. This was going to be exciting, he thought.
