Now in Science

In soviet russia, laws of physics believe in you!

BTW, morri, we also still don't have a real definition of what exactly mass is. Sure, we know that a redwood tree has a lot of mass, but why? What part of the world makes mass, and what makes that part? The theory right now lies upon the shoulders of one Higg's Boson, proposed to be one of the "Standard Model*" particles. (one of the two that haven't been seen yet) It would help explain why elemantary particles which should not have mass in fact do. It works as a field (since every particle has a field and vice versa) which permiates through all of the universe and it has a non-zero vacuum expectation value which is what makes it work. It acts sorta like a pool of molasses that "sticks" to the otherwise massless fundamental particles which travel through the field, giving gauge bosons** mass! If we could actually find a Higgs boson, we could use it to discover why certain things would act that way. PLUS, after doing some research of my own, it looks like the neutrino's you mention are practically massless and move close to the speed of light. Comparing that going through an object to the normal things we look at (say a proton or neutron) would be like showing the difference between shooting a paper with a 12 guage shotgun and a peeshooter. Also, the standard model assumes neutrino's ARE massless and although the standard model insn't always a scientists best friend, it has been proven correct with the discoveries of the W and Z bosons. Then again, there are a few expiriments claiming that neutrino's may have mass but now I'm just walking in circles. Also, I will admit that the model isn't a complete theory of everything since it only describes the three forces that make up what we see but not the force of gravity.

*the Standard Model is what scientists are trying to use to explain everything, although the model falls short (doesn't even attempt to explain gravity) and the equation itself is absolutely massive, requiring a minimum of 18 numerical constants and violates the unwritten law of the simpler the better, like Einsteins e=mc^2 equation

**gauge bosons are the bosons/particals that carry the fundumental forces of nature.

If you read all of that, than thanks for caring.
If you understood all that, congratulations are in order.

i didn't understand a [censored] thing... I read it all though.. lol... I'm more into Biology (actually, more into studying Lions and such), not Chemistry and Physics.

I read it but I didn't understand much.

Yeah, I love science but I prefer marine biology(mainly sharks) so I wouldn't really know what most of what ya said meant.

I've actually been looking into becoming an expert witness, like in biomechanical enginering.

K42 smart. He use fancy words, us peeps no understand fancy words....

I thought about going into the feild of Biology, but i'm not sure.... IDK if technology counts as science, But we have 3D imaging TVs that you don't need 3d glasses to use.. Oh, and stem cell research.. We no longer need Embryonic Stem Cells, we have Adult Stem cells... so no more killing embryos... YAY!!!

That's good news.

Um...what exactly is that?

Yeah marine biology or zoology is more of my thing. Sometimes thinking about stuff like that makes me confused

That's the right idea!!

I would never be good at anything with physics 'cause I suck at math

I hate math, but I at least can understand it and that's the important part.

An expert witness is an accredited specialist who studies certain information about something like, say, a car accident. They can then do the math and form their opinions about what happened. Then they are brought in at trial and they tell what the facts say.
(also, they make more than your average lawyer  )
The only problem with that career choice is that I would have to go to 4+ years of law school after just getting through my 4 years of undergrad. college and that would really suck. Since talking to my school counseler and my mom, I've diecided to continue with my original thoughts of simply going and getting my ph.d in physics (or rather aeronautical engineering) and work at a place like Boeing or NASA and I can always go to lawschool later in life when I feel like a need a change of pace.

Isn't life just as much fun as proofs in Geometry?

Yay, I get to double post in my room! Woohoo!

Anyways, to whom it may concern...

Scientists have actually discovered primitive cells (in female mice) in ovaries that can be stimulated to become new eggs giving birth to perfectly normal babies. This challenges our views of the biological clock that woman are born with a limited reservoir that is doomed to eventually dry up. They did an expirement where they took out some of these primitive cells and died them with glowing, florescent genes from jellyfish and they replaced these cells within the female mice. Later, when they gave birth, they were able to positively identify multiple baby mice who had that gene 'marking' and who lived perfectly normal, unmutated lives! It's an interesting idea that is yet to be tested in humans but promises a lot for woman who would want to keep the ability to have babies for longer.
